John VanNosdall Obituary

VanNosdall, John
DELMAR - John W. "Jack" VanNosdall, 94, passed away on September 12, 2025 after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with God and his "Honey". Jack was born on May 17, 1931, to Seymour and Alice VanNosdall. Jack met Honey when they were in middle school and walked their dogs past each other's homes. They married soon after high school, remaining married for 66 years, until her death in 2020. Jack retired from the Bethlehem Police as sergeant after 31 years. He was proud to have been the first group of Constables to graduate from the State Police Academy. He enjoyed "walking the beat" and talking to people. He delivered a baby only a week out of the Academy and drove a surgeon that was stuck at home into the hospital using his snowmobile. Jack was a member of the Elsmere Fire Department and spent nine years in the Army Reserves. His family loved his ability to fix almost anything. He would create an invention in his shop at a moment's notice. Honey and Jack were members of the Indian Lake Snow Warriors and founding members of the Helder-Hawk Chapter of the NCHA. They enjoyed visiting the Adirondacks and brought their daughter up to love the outdoors. He loved watching Nancy grow up and looked fondly on their nightly fishing trips. When Nancy and Rem married, Rem became the son he never had. Their son, Rob, was Poppy's pride and joy. Jack attended all of Rob's concerts, watched Rob slide for the U.S.A. Luge and bobsled team, and traveled to visit him at college.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Nancy; "son," Rem; and grandson, Rob; along with his fur baby, "Ziti." He is the brother-in-law to Marcia and Ken Burt, and William and the late Janice Drozd; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m., at the Durant Funeral Home, 741 Delaware Ave., Delmar. Friends may call Monday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment next to his beloved, Honey, in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Contribution may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.
