Wong, Jose SCHENECTADY Jos? Wong, 90, a longtime resident of Schenectady, N.Y., passed away May 24, 2009 peacefully at Ellis Hospital. Jos? was born January 3, 1919 in Canton, China to Ming and Moi Choy Wong. He left China at the age of 17 years to care for his ailing father and manage the family business in Havana, Cuba. He was an accomplished businessman, owning and operating the Chez Roig Resort Hotel in Varadero Beach, Cuba, Metropolitan Restaurant in Havana and affiliated food import export businesses during the 1940s and 1950s. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Ana Rosa Wong. The couple was happily married for 61 years. He moved his two young daughters and mother-in-law to Schenectady in 1961 and followed in 1962 with his wife and father-in-law, leaving Cuba after the Castro regime takeover. Jos?, a self-made man, started a new life in the United States. He retired from Jack's Restaurant, Albany, N.Y. in 1994. He loved spending time with his family and friends, cooking, and watching his beloved Yankees play. He will be remembered as a kind, loving and respectful man who helped everyone who needed him. Jos? is survived by his beloved wife Ana; his daughters, Ana Wood of Las Vegas, Nev. and Marilyn Wong-Wittmer (Robert) of Ashburn, Va. and son, Jose N. Wong (Jessica) of N.H. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Greg Wood (Erin) of San Francisco, Ryan Wood of Las Vegas, Russell Wittmer of Ashburn, Julian Wong and Cecilia Wong of N.H. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Juana Jung and Angelica Rochford of Schenectady, and brother-in-law, Ray Fong of Naples, Fla. as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville on Thursday, May 28, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 and be followed at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Albany Street, Schenectady.
