Joseph Olander Obituary

Olander, Joseph J. LOUDONVILLE On October 23, 2018, following a brief illness, Joseph J. Olander passed peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. Joe and his twin brother Edward were born in Albany on January 26, 1942 to John and Ruth Killian Olander. Joe was predeceased by his adoring wife and love of his life Beverly "Becky" Hill Olander; his parents; and twin brother Edward. He is survived by his five children whom he adored, Jody Siy (Michael), Dale Coronato (Christopher), Karen Olander, Nicole Olander, and Joseph Olander-Hahn (Shawn); he is also survived by his loving siblings, Ruth Smith (Don), Carole Stevens (Jack), James Olander (Virginia), Deborah Olander (Joe Ferguson) and David Olander (Caren Cagiano); Joe also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; in addition he leaves behind a host of dear relatives and friends. Family was most important to Joe, but he was also immensely proud of his career in law enforcement and service to his Country. Joe served in the U.S. Navy commissioned to the USS Rooks, where he was privileged to be a part of the first space shuttle recovery. Joe began an esteemed career in law enforcement in 1963 with the N.Y.S. Capitol Police. He then served as a sergeant with the Colonie Police Department. From there, he joined the New York State Troopers where he served as a sergeant and subsequently, an investigator with the BCI Unit. Joe was a proud recipient of the Brummer Award, recognizing him for a singularly outstanding performance of duty. In the latter part of his career Joe was deputized as a U.S. Marshall to work with the FBI Drug Task Enforcement Unit. Upon retirement from his prestigious 31-year career in law enforcement Joe worked for security at Siena College, a job he enjoyed and where he met his best friend and "brother" Joe Moran. Post retirement, Joe enjoyed spending time on his hobby, raising exotic fish and relaxing with Beverly at their place on Cape Cod. To know our Dad was to love him and we are at peace knowing that he is reunited with Mom. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joe's family on Friday, October 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 27, at 10 a.m. in McVeigh Funeral Home. The interment will be held in Albany Rural Cemetery, immediately following the service. Oh Dad, how my heart aches...you left us only 36 hours ago and we miss you immensely already.
I will always cherish the time we had together, including our lunches when I was just a little girl, watching our favorite shows like The Voice, Jack Ryan, and Live PD, and most recently, laughing like silly kids in your hospital room at night!
Thank You for my Life and the Memories you have given me. I Love You Dad ! Love, Nerak
