GLENMONT Joseph R. Tiberia Jr., 45, of Glenmont, and formerly of Ravena, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006. He was born August 31, 1960, son of Florence (Pagano) Tiberia and the late Joseph R. He went on to earn an associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Hudson Valley Community College and became employed by the NYS Department of Corrections in 1981. He served as the Village Square Home Owners Assoc. vice president on the board of director's from 1987 to 1999. For the past four years he had volunteered his service back to R.C.S. Central High School by assisting and helping the basketball and football programs. He often spoke about his passion to help instruct and to be a positive role model for young adults through sports. He was an absolute devoted loving father and husband for 20 years. Joe was a communicant of both St. Patrick's, Ravena and St. Thomas the Apostle, Delmar. Joe leaves behind the two loves of his life, his wife, Claudia (DeFrate) and his son, Christian Joseph; his brother, Donald of Pa.; his sister, Deanna (Matt) Stephenson of Clifton Park; and his niece, Olivia Grace; also survived by many cousins, in particular his cousin, Bob Tiberia of Glenmont who was his rock. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 16 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Those who wish to contribute in memory of Joseph may do so to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

Claudia, Christian and Family,

I worked with Joe for over 24 years and have many fine memories. We talked sports alot, like when Joe told me the story in 1986 about how he was all ready to celebrate his Redsox beating my Mets for the world series. Then how he watched the Mets come from behind to win. He took it stride. He was a good person, always thinking of his family. He once changed my shift so I could start out on a trip to Colorado a bit early. I said Thanks Joe, I'll bring you back a shirt. He said you don't have to do that. If you want, bring one back for my son. I did just that. I'll miss you Joe, as we all will.

It was our pleasure and privilege to be Joe's neighbor. I'll always picture him on the back deck, enjoying a cigar and a few quiet words with Charlotte, our cat. His gentle ways, his smiling eyes, his commitment to family - he was an inspiration for all of us. We loved him, we'll miss him, we're always here for you Claude and Chris - even though we're not right next door anymore.

Deanna:

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how deeply you loved your brother. May you find peace in knowing how well loved he was by all and that anyone who met him, however brief the interaction, came away a better person from having met him!

To the entire Tiberia family: May you find peace during the coming days and be sustained by the love everyone had for Joe. God Bless You.

Claude & Christian,

The sadness that I feel cannot compare to what you are feeling. Joey instilled in you the love, strength and grace you need to get through. Believe me, it will take time, but your heartbreak will lessen. Know that I and countless others, love you and are here for you to lean on indefinetly. Joey was truly a man to be admired. I am privileged to have known Joe for the past two years. Joe has a quality where he immediately treats you as a long-time friend or family member and I often have to remind myself that I had only known him for a short while. Nonetheless, in that time he instilled in me the values and rewards that service to others can provide. You are a great man, Joe, and I am honored to have you as a friend. With love to you, Claudia and Christian -

Claudia:

It's so funny how you don't see someone for years and suddenly reconnect. After high school I didn't see Joe until our children entered the middle school and we would see each other at their various activities. Joe was always quick with a smile and a hello and I was given the gift of meeting you. Our paths have crossed several times in the past four years and I will miss him at future school events. It's truly a tragedy for you and your son to lose someone so special to you both. I hope you are somehow comforted with the knowledge that Joe will always be with you both in spirit. God Bless you both. Dot (Kaylee) Persico

June 14, 2006

Dear Claudia and Chris,

My deepest thoughts go to you two in a time like this. Although I can not sympathize with you I can empathize how this situation affecting your lives. Sometimes I think to myself ‘why can’t villains and ‘bad people’ die suffering with cancers, not the quiet innocent?’ But every time I ask myself this question it just makes me angry with the world, God, and myself. This is why death is so hard to accept and understand. Joe was a great man. Always humble and modest, and there to listen to what you had to say. His personality and attitude, was perpetually enlightening. Joe was a breath of fresh air. The world has lost a wonderful man. Joe is always in my prayers as well as you. Remember love never dies.

Claudia, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I sat thinking of all the memories we shared and how life certainly repeats itself - your dad being a C.O., you marry a C.O., you being an only child - you have one child. You lost your Dad at very close to the same age as your son lost his father. Very strange how these things happen. After losing very dear loved ones, I can only tell you, that the pain lessons with the great memories that we keep alive. I am most certainly here for anything that you need now and in the future. Although Joe is not here with you in body, he is certainly with you in spirit. Keep the smile he would have loved to see on your face, he is always with you. All my love, Pinky
