RENSSELAER - Katherine "Kathy" De Luccia, 77, of Rensselaer, N.Y., passed away peacefully, on June 15, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Her family is deeply saddened by her loss, and will forever cherish her warmth, humor, and the loving memories they shared.
Born in Troy, Kathy later moved to Cooperstown, and graduated from John S. Burke Catholic High School. She went on to earn her RN from St. Peter's Nursing School in Albany. Kathy worked for many years as a dedicated operating room nurse. She was known for her sense of humor, love for travel, especially Ireland, and her deep devotion to family.
To her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, she was lovingly known as "Kathy, Kathy." To Lucas, Cassidy, and Madison, her great-grandchildren, she was affectionately called "Pom Pom." Her home was often the center of family gatherings and joyful trips to amusement parks, zoos, and children's museums with "Kathy, Kathy and Uncle Ed."
She is survived and sadly missed by her niece, Robin May, and husband Larry, of Methuen, Mass.; great-nieces Katelyn Mac Neil, and husband Scott of Fremont, N.H., and Megan May and fiancée Chase Sanford of Deerfield, N.H.; her sisters, Peggy Fournier, and husband Jerry of Poestenkill, N.Y., Maureen Denig and husband William of Windham, Maine, and Colleen Frye, and husband Michael of DeWitt, N.Y. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will remember her at "Kathy, Kathy".
Kathy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Edward De Luccia, in 2019; her parents, William and Kathleen Purcell; and many cherished aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m., in Sacred Heart Church, Troy. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited, and may call Thursday, June 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave., Troy. Family and friends are invited to a reception afterward at Hilton Garden Inn, 235 Hoosick St, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy's memory, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
