Katherine Riesner Obituary

Riesner, Katherine Fenster ALBANY Katherine Fenster Riesner passed away peacefully on September 5, 2008, surrounded by her loving and devoted children and grandchildren. Katherine was the loving mother of Barbara Monaghan, Julia Knight, and William Riesner; and the grandmother to Alexandra and Max Knight and Michael and Megan Riesner. She was a devoted mother-in-law to Bill Monaghan, Barry Knight and Sandra Riesner; and aunt and very close friend to Nancy and Bill Fibiger. Born and raised in Albany, N.Y., Katherine was the daughter of Phillip and Julia Fenster, stepdaughter of Lillian Fenster, and sister of Albert and Norman Fenster. Katherine was a graduate of St. Agnes High School and Wheelock College, where she studied early childhood education. She taught nursery school and was one of the founders of Head Start and the White Plains Day Care Association. She spent much time bringing awareness of children with special needs and disabilities. Katherine spent many years in Westchester, N.Y., volunteering countless hours to Student Advocacy and the United Way. Katherine returned to her roots in Albany in 1998, where she was close again to her friends and family. She was member of the Temple Beth Emeth Sisterhood in Albany. She left behind a great number of dear friends who will miss her dearly. For the last 30 years she was a well respected breeder of Pembroke Welsh Corgies, including a number of champion dogs and a Westminster Champion. She owned a number of corgies during this period and they were an important part of her life. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Contributions in Katherine's memory can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 North Halsted Street, Suite 201 Chicago, Illinois 60642-2642 (312)587-9272; fax (312) 587- 9273. I met Kathy through Pembroke Welsh Corgis, and she was a valued friend: generous, warm-hearted, kind and funny. We had such good times together with the dogs! She will be missed.

When Kaki left White Plains, NY (she hated leaving) and I helped her pack up, she was a frequent "tenant" at my home. A gracious visitor, solicitous of my Dad. My beloved Trilby wouldn't be in my life save for her!!! She always worried about Taylor when she had to be away. When I drive by Coralyn Ave. I remember her and how she hated to leave there. She was more than a good friend and the Rainbow Bridge is brighter.

Kaki really made a place for herself in Albany. She was awfully brave these last years as she lost more and more mobility. Enjoy the memories of better times!
