Katherine Waldron Obituary

Waldron, Katherine Marie
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Katherine "Kay" Marie (Loman) Waldron, 87, of Maple Ave., former longtime native of Mechanicville, died on Friday, August 29, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 20, 1938, in Troy, N.Y., the second child of the late Harold and Ida Bothwell Loman. Kay was a 1955 graduate of Mechanicville High School and earned her Bachelor's degree in education from her beloved College of St. Rose in 1960.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She selflessly supported and encouraged all of her children's pursuits throughout their lives. She always made room at the table and welcomed all into her home. Mom made our home the heart for celebrating holidays, birthdays, and many other special occasions with family and friends. She also was a caring support for her brothers and brother-in-law from a young age. She cherished lifelong friendships with those she met at St. Rose and those she worked alongside during her 30+ year teaching career. Kay also enjoyed time in her flower gardens. While bedridden, she was able to admire her backyard, nature outside her window, the various birds that came to her feeders and the weekly fresh cut flowers surrounding her. Kay was a dedicated and loved first grade teacher at Mechanicville Elementary School for over 25 years. Over the years, former students would often express their thanks and admiration of their time in her classroom.
Faith was the foundation of her life. She was a communicant of The Church of St. Peter, where she was actively involved, supporting many ministries. She enjoyed the prayer group, where she met many wonderful friends. Prior to moving to Saratoga, she was an active member of Assumption-St. Paul parish community in Mechanicville, where she helped initiate the "Children's Church" during Sunday Liturgy, a Eucharistic minister and a member of the church choir. In 2011, she was honored by Bishop Hubbard for her dedication and service to the church.
Survivors include her children, Jeffery (Gerard), John (Mary), Suzanne (Brian), James (Kristen), Joseph (Sarah); grandchildren, Sebastian, Tanner, Nicholas, Carrie, Shauna, Mark, great-grandchildren, Mila and Cale; siblings, Thomas (Evie), Paul (Chris) and David; sisters-in-law, Elzora Conway, Carol Waldron, Jeanne Waldron; brother-in-law, Earl (Heidi); many nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Rachel; her other "son," Patrick (Kristin); and her other "grandchildren," Christopher, Nicholas and Patrick.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Terry (September 5, 2022); sister and her husband, Jane Anne and Giles Russell; and in-laws, Hawley (Betty), David (Rita), Frank (Nancy), Ray, Thomas (Patricia), Richard, and Carolyn (Louis) Herman.
Special thank you to Kay's compassionate and loving caregivers over these past 17 months, Shelly, Naomi, Nikki, Michelle, Karen, Heidi and Sumaira. Also, for the dedicated Community Hospice team, Vicki, Gerri, Karen and Mark. And to Rev. Thomas Chevalier, Rev. John Kirwin and Deacon Ed Solomon, for their many comforting visits over the past year. And for her longtime healthcare providers, Dr. Steven Simmons, Dr. Jennifer Borden, and Sandra Hermans, NP.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, N.Y.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Kay. She and her husband Terry were always so gracious and kind to me during my two years as an associate pastor at Church of St. Peter from 2010 - 2012. Kay and Terry were part of the wonderful, cheerful Daily Mass group that gathered in the St. Peter's Daily Mass Chapel everyday at 8 am. May the Lord graciously welcome Kay home to heaven. God Bless, Fr. Matt Wetsel

To all the members of the Waldron and Loman families,
Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathies for the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt and a wonderful friend to some many people. I have the greatest respect for those who pursue the profession of teaching, especially as Kay did as an elementary teacher for so many years. Indeed, the touch of the hands of an elementary school teacher and, likewise, a mother is truly magic. It was those hands that for years wiped away tears, brought comfort and solace to distressed children, and comfort to little ones as they experienced the joys of early education and schooling. I am sure the close to one- thousand children’s lives she touched found courage and hope as they looked into her smiling eyes. These children will never forget this lesson of love that she taught so exceptionally for many decades.
In the same way, faith, family and friends were the hallmark of her married life. Kay’s deep love for Terry created a loving family of five children whom she loved more than life herself. She created a home at148 South Main Street in Mechanicville where she fostered and nurtured the same loving environment as she had done in school. Bandaging physical wounds as well as mending broken hearts were only part of her duties as mother. In addition, she was a counselor, a referee and the greatest cheerleader one could have. Her children were her pride and joy, and she disciplined according to the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law. Moreover, as a deeply religious woman, Kay lived the Beatitudes and had a great love for the least of her brethren. As a student at Siena, I was welcomed many times at the dinner table for many family celebrations where all were made to feel like family. Caring so diligently for her parents and fulfilling her role as wife to her beloved Terry, happiness was the hallmark of her married life.
We give thanks to God today for the many graces and talents that He bestowed upon Kay in this life for she truly was a beacon of light on a hill to all who loved her. Saying goodbye is never easy, but comfort can be found in knowing that memories last forever. I will forever cherish my last visits with her, and I pray the memory of Kay will live on in each of you.
May the peace and consolation of God be with you in the days that lie ahead. It has been a pleasure to have known such a fine-Christian woman for so many years who touched my life. Well done good and faithful servant for a life so very well lived, may you now enter the Home prepared for you since the foundation of the world.

Love, peace and prayers, Kevin Schultz

It seems like so many years ago when I used to play with David and babysit, Jeff, John, Suzanne, & Jimmy on our beloved Green St. Your parents were the sweetest and kindest people. Kay always made me feel at home and always appreciated when I’d help her out watching you all. Really helping me out honing in on my babysitting skills. I loved your family like my own. Know that I am thinking of you all.
