Keith Getz Obituary

Getz, Keith
DELMAR - Keith Colin Getz passed on October 22, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Keith was born May 5, 1954, to the late Colin and Delma Getz. Keith met the love of his life and beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy Fish Getz, settling in Bethlehem, where they raised their three children. He was a devoted family man who spent every moment of his life at family activities or working to improve the lives of those around him. Keith was known for his incredibly positive attitude, love of life and work ethic, and was admired by all who knew him. A fixture in local youth sports, he left a mark on anyone who knew him. Keith was an avid baseball player and great pitcher. He also played third base for the Delmar Derelicts with some of his lifelong friends. He found great joy in cheering on his favorite teams, Rangers and Yankees. In his final years, he lived to see his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. Before retiring early at age 52, Keith had a career with Niagara Mohawk as a construction rigger. He loved his job and coworkers, and could often be seen scaling tall utility towers with no worries. The family would like to thank the many nurses and aides at Shaker Place for taking such great care of him in his final months. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; father of Keith (Shirley) Getz, Carrie (Matthew) Sollien And Kathleen (Jonathan) Turner; brother of the late Douglas Getz; grandfather of Brynn and Bryan Sollien. and Ellie Turner; and many nieces and nephews who loved him. Friends may call Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Durant Funeral Home, 741 Delaware Ave., with a brief service to follow with friends sharing stories about Keith. The family is requesting contributions be made to either The Parkinson's Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation, 498 7th Ave., New York, N.Y. 10018.
