Billings, Kenneth J. Sr.
SHARON SPRINGS - Kenneth J. Billings Sr., 73 of Staleyville Road and formerly of Waterford, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Schuylerville, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Lois Brockway Billings and nephew of the late Flora E. King who raised him as her own from the age of 11. He was a 1968 graduate of Schuylerville Central School.
Ken had been employed for 21 years by the New York State Department of Transportation. He served as chief canal lock operator while being stationed with the Canal Division. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
While a resident of Waterford, he was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Charles J. Brady Post and the VFW Post 5800 both in Waterford. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Ken was a family man who idolized his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, family cookouts, and photography, especially sunrises and sunsets. His favorite pastime though was riding with his canine companion, Princess. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
He was the loving husband of the late Lois Stover Billings who died in 2015. He is survived by his devoted children, Jennifer L. Duncan (Kermit Oakes) of Auburndale, Fla., Kenneth J. Billings Jr. of Sharon Springs, and Lisa A. Salisbury (Eric) of Fort Plain. He was the brother of Sheila Fish (Bill) of Queensbury, Beverly Fish (late Bruce), Catherine Farrand (Dale) of Fort Edward and the late Peggy Flewelling (late Cy); and proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
