Kevin Curry Obituary

Curry, Kevin Michael ROTTERDAM Kevin Michael Curry, 54, entered Heaven on Thursday, January 27, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with bladder cancer for which he passionately sought a cure. He left peacefully, surrounded by family, in the arms of his loving wife, Karen Stachewicz Curry in their home. Kevin was a graduate of Albany High School and held certificates for his business. He was a self-employed certified home inspector, kitchen cabinet designer and installer. Kevin was a perfectionist and very dedicated to his work. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church and the Albany Elks. Kevin had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He took pleasure in the simple things in life. Kevin was the kind of man who made everyone around him feel loved, appreciated and accepted. His love of learning helped make Kevin an eloquent conversationalist. Kevin also had an extremely adventurous spirit - he left no stone unturned. In every person he met, and in every heart he touched, he left a piece of himself. He loved hiking, coin collecting and scouting for arrowheads and artifacts. His biggest passion, which he shared with his family, was his love of Cape Cod. Most of his childhood was spent in his favorite spot, Buttermilk Bay. He is survived by his best friend and soul mate, his wife, Karen Stachewicz Curry; his beloved children, Michael (Jessica) Curry, Joseph Curry, Cassandra Curry, Meghan Alexander and Lauren (Zachary Zeh) Alexander; his mother "mommy", Constance Curry; his brothers, William (Susan) Curry and Hayden (Christina) Curry; a sister, Dorothy (Thomas) Sheller; loving in-laws and devout caregivers, Benjamin and Helene Stachewicz; beloved sisters-in-law, Darlene (Kevin) Stott and Rachel (Angel) Rodriguez. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Chandra Veino, William Curry, David Andrews, Benjamin Andrews, Annie Rodriguez and Alex Rodriguez. He is also survived by very good and supportive friends, Bill and Deanna Hopper and his beloved dog, Pepper Ann. Kevin was predeceased by his father, William H. Curry and is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Kevin and Karen would like to give special thanks to Kevin's Hospice nurse, Nori Giacchetta for her devoted support and kindness during his illness. Kevin also had a special place in his heart for Dr. Zachary Passaretti, who believed in him. Kevin and Karen would also like to thank from the bottom of their hearts, their other family at Cap Com Federal Credit Union, especially Paula Stopera, whom Kevin held a special place in his heart for. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 4 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home Inc., 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to gather at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam for a Mass of Christian Burial. Cremation interment will be at the convenience of the family. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial donations in his name be made to Cap Com Cares Foundation, 18 Computer Drive East, Albany, NY 12205.

Dear Joni, Michael, Joe & Cassandra,
I'm so very sorry to learn of Kevin's passing. My heart goes out to you at this most difficult time. As you all know, he and I had been friends for more than 40 years. From children growing up until now - there isn't much that we didn't do together. Joni, I watched you bring 3 beautiful children into this world together. He was a great provider, always working hard. We all witnessed his life threatening injuries that he overcame. He just kept on bouncing back time & again when most people wouldn't be able to. He almost seemed invincible. His adventurous spirit and desire to live life to the fullest was his trademark - he feared nothing. To say that you could write a book about his life story would truly be an understatement. He lived more life than any person I've ever known. He will live on in our hearts forever. I was proud to be his friend & yours.
"GodSpeed Kevin"
Sincerely,
BRUCE KELLEY and FAMILY

Dear Karen & Family,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of Kevin. I know how much he loved you guys and how much you loved him. I'd especially like to acknowledge the love and wonderful care that you & your family provided for my great friend in the sunset of his life. Also, your wonderful support system at work. Paula Stopera & staff, she did a lovely reading at the service. I've spent some time reflecting upon our times together, there are so many memories & stories. We've been friends for over 40 years. Hunting, fishing, dart tournaments, not to mention all of the years we worked together. I could go on and on. It was great to see and hear from so many of our old friends. He touched many lives in his own way. It's very hard to accept right now, I know pretty soon when we all think of him, we'll all find a way to smile just like him. He was one of a kind.
Sincerely,
BRUCE KELLEY & FAMILY

Kevin,
I can't believe your gone. You fought long and hard to stay here with your family. May you now have peace and comfort beside the Lord. I have so many fond memories of you, and they will be with me forever. I remember when you had your Landscaping business, how you would take the kids with you and they would sit on your lap while you were mowing Miss O'Neils Lawn. And you would take them snowplowing with you. When you worked at American Steel up the street and they would walk up to see you and bring you lunch. You and the kids Strawberry Picking, then stopping at the creek after to swim, and hardly any of those strawberry's made it home. LOL All the fishing trips with the kids, hunting with Mike, Arrow Head hunting with Joey, dancing in the living room with Cassie. All the adventures scouting out a Christmas Tree in the woods, as we all froze! We had the biggest Christmas Trees anyone could possible have. And oh yes the Cape, many good times there. Your home away from home, your favorite place. We all shared many good times with you. And that smile, Cassie has your smile. Mike, Cass and Joey, Pops will always be with you guys, watching your every step, guiding you as he always did. He would get so mad at you guys, but I want you to know, he loved you all so much. He is your Guardian Angel now, so when you need him he will be there for you all. Keep him in your hearts forever, and Make Him PROUD! Mike and Joe you are here to carry on the Curry Name. Karen, Megan and Lauren, my heart goes out to you all. Karen you were his rock, his love. I only wish he had more time with you, he was truly happy. I wish he could have had his dream to retire with you and spend the rest of your lives living at the cape. But I know the time you two shared was amazing. He loved you so much. Megan and Lauren, I know how much you loved your Dad and it had to be very hard for you to see him struggle for the past year. He loved you both so much. You have alot of good times to remember. He will be watching over you. Dorothy, I am so sorry I know how much you loved your brother. You were always there for him as he was for you. You are right he was, your how to guy. Bill and Hayden, I am sorry for your loss, losing a little brother is so hard. He loved you guys. Hayden remember when he use to play Santa Claus at your house for William? He was a funny guy. Connie, my deepest sympathy to you. Losing a child has to be the hardest thing in the world. I am always here for you. I love you all, and just know Kevin is at peace now. He will be with you all forever in your hearts. May he rest in peace. Love ya Kev

Many years have past since we hung out together in the old neighborhood of Hudson Ave. Seemed like day in and day out we had each others friendship. From cruisin around on our Stingray bicycles, then on to your green chevy up and down the avenue. What fun and laughter we had. Then we grew up and went our separate ways, but what I'll never forget is the memories of the "good old days". Rest in Peace Kevin and thanks for being my friend.

My sincere and deepest sympathy go out to his family and friends and I'd like to remind us all that everyday is a gift. God Bless.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My family and I knew Kevin very well when we were growing up on Ontario Street. Always kind and funny. When we were in our teens, I went to see Kevin at the hospital almost daily when he was injured. I remember his family thanking us for being there and that it meant a lot to them.

Kevin is in a number of pictures in our family photo albums...such wonderful and warm memories. May he rest in peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

God looked around his garden And He found an empty place. And then He looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain, He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids, And whispered"Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you . But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.

What is Death?
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
......that we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without affect,
without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.

All is well.
~ Henry Scott Holland

RIP Kev
