ALBANY - Kristen R. Barker, also known as Kristen James, 55, passed away peacefully on Monday night, June 19, 2023, at the Hospice Inn after a long, grueling and courageous fight against tongue cancer.
Kristen lived her life as fully as possible despite sometimes debilitating anxiety and other conditions that would limit her ability to function fully at times. She enjoyed her art and always enjoyed her trips to the Clark Art Institute and the Berkshires. Seeing the ocean was something she always longed for in her life. She felt special spirituality during the times she could go to the services at Delmar Reformed Church and sometimes to the Third Reformed Church in Albany.
She loved her cats and hoped to be reunited with her sweet Mookie over rainbow bridge after spending 18 and a half years doting on him. She leaves behind her sweet Darci after 13 years with her. She leaves Darci with her best friend, Wil Ackerly, who will miss the loving heart that would make people feel special.
Thanks to Pastor Chris and the members of Delmar Reformed Church and others who reached out to her during the final months of her Illness. Also, a special thanks to the home hospice care workers and those at Hospice Inn who treated her so lovingly during her time in home hospice and her days in Hospice Inn.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, June 24, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a short service at the funeral home. A brief service will be held in the Albany Rural Cemetery afterword.
In lieu of flowers, Kristen has requested that a donation be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or another rescue group that practices trap, neuter, and release (TNR) for feral cats.
