TROY - Leona Bishop passed away at age 85, on December 20, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Leona was born May 4, 1939, to Bernice Liss and Charles Kania in Troy, N.Y. She graduated Lansingburgh H.S. in 1956, and Russel Sage College in 1971, with a master's in Nursing Science and Education. She joined the faculty at Hudson Valley Community College in 1971, and returned in 2008 as Professor Emeritus. She won the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching from the State University of New York in 1997. She will be remembered by the many students she touched over the years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, James S. Bishop. They enjoyed their many trips that took them throughout Europe and Asia in their later years. James and Leona had two daughters, Lisa Elhardt of Stanwood, Wash., and Heather Bishop of Altamont, N.Y; her brother, Charles Kania, lives in Clifton park, N.Y. Leona died peacefully in her home surrounded by her two daughters. Funeral services and Burial were held in Butler, Mo., where she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, James.
