Linda O'Connor Obituary

O'Connor, Linda VOORHEESVILLE Linda Rose O'Connor, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away suddenly on Friday, June 1, 2012 in her home. Linda and her husband, Thom, had just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 30, 2012. Linda was a respected fiber artist part-icipating in shows internationally and her work is included in many fine art collections here and abroad. Her passion for the art is reflected in the many generations of kids she taught through the Helderberg Workshop as well as the many quilting groups, artisan groups and adult education classes she taught and participated in. Linda and Thom had moved to Voorheesville in the early 60s and Linda has been involved in many community programs and embraced the community as hers ever since. Born July 3, 1936 in Indianapolis, Ind., her family moved to Bartow, Fla., where she grew up. She earned her B.A. at Florida State University where she met her husband, Thom. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thom; her two sons, Sean and Ian and their wives, Cheryl and Joanne; her adoring grandchildren, Lara, Maurin, Evan and Angela; her brothers, Martin Howell (Jolene) of Lake Wales, Fla. and Bernard, of Gainesville, Fla.; and her sister, Christine Jenkins of Weaverville, N.C. Linda was a true friend and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Linda's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. Matthew's Church, Mountainview Street, Voorheesville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Scotland. Calling hours will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Voorheesville. To Thom and family, I will always remember you and Linda, as neighbors in Voorheesville, and as a fellow faculty member at UAlbany. I have two of Thom's great face art works on my diningroom wall, from more than 50 years ago, and they still get compliments. Linda always greeted me as a long-lost friend when I saw her. These are happy memories, of wonderful people. ... Kathy Kendall

I know and understand just how special this lady was, anything she touched, she made better, anything she made was beautiful, and anyone she spoke with enjoyed her company. This list could go on and on, from artistry, to teaching, to cooking, to counseling, to gardening, to all things life in general, she had it all covered, just an amazing person and just so happened to be my Mom. I will remember her and sow that in my kids and family for the rest of the days I am here on earth. I miss you terribly Mom, Love Ian.

Thom and Linda were among the first to make us feel welcome when we moved to Albany and we've always appreciated their kindness. Later, our daughter was lucky to have her as a teacher at the Heldeberg workshop, where Linda taught her how to sew. We'll always think of her when we see the bear they made together.
Thom, you and your family are in our thoughts,

Tom, it was such a shock when Alice called and told us about Linda and it's still hard to believe. I''m so grateful that Alice located us after not seeing or hearing from anyone for at least 50 years. I'll never forget talking to Linda for the first time and she asked, "Lynn, has your hair turned grey yet?" "Yes, indeed it has." I felt like a third roommate at FSU although I lived across the hall from Linda and Alice. Those memories are wonderful to go back and visit. It was a great time in our lives filled with fun, laughter, and of course a little studying. Linda will always be remembered as a kind and thoughtful person. We were blessed to know her and share a little in her life.
God bless, Lynn & Larry
