Maria Poptanycz Obituary

Poptanycz, Maria TROY Maria Poptanycz, 83, of 5th Ave., died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born and educated in Tyra, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine Lesiaki Czomko. She came to this country in 1949 and settled in Cohoes and then moved to the Lansingburgh address in 1968. Maria was a communicant of St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Cohoes and was very active in church affairs in her younger years. She was the widow of Gabriel Poptanycz. She is the mother of Russell J. Poptanycz of Shenandoah, Iowa, Luba Novak of Ore., Michael Poptanycz of Troy and the late Raymond Poptanycz. She is also survived by her brothers, Franco and Stanley Czomko of Poland as well as four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Church. Interment will be in St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday 5-7 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home office.
