Marian Dreis Obituary

Dreis, Marian ALBANY Marian Dreis, 96, entered eternal life on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Teresian House, surrounded in the embrace of her loving and dedicated family. Born in Rensselaer, Marian was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Krenkel Lamby. Marian and her late husband Louis operated for over 50 years the Dreis Funeral Home in Albany's South End, located across from the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Second Avenue. Marian supported Lou behind the scenes all those years to make the funeral home a successful and a caring place for the families they served, while being a wonderful wife to Lou and mother to their daughters, MaryLou and Susan. Marian was a longtime member of the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church, and belonged to their Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Columbiettes, and she enjoyed bowling, traveling, bingo, playing cards, reading, and the New York Yankees. But of all these interests, Marian's greatest joys came from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members, and as Lou's partner operating the funeral home. She was the wife of the late Louis T. Dreis; beloved mother of MaryLou Dreis Ives (Mark) and Sue Dreis Panza (Mark); cherished grandmother of Matthew Malette (Megan), Colleen Bradt (Justin), Lindsey Bradt Garney, Jason Bradt (Lindsey), and Lori Betor (Andrew); great-grandmother of Dylan, Grace, Nicholas, Lauryn, Cameron and George; sister of the late Catherine Freeman; many nieces and nephews survive. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Teresian House, especially Floor 6A, and Randy, Wynona, Jean, Barb, Sherry and Coleen. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Marian's family on Friday, February 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. in her place, Dreis Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Funeral services on Saturday, February 10, at 8:45 a.m. in Dreis Funeral Home, Albany thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany, at 9:30 a.m. where her funeral Mass will be concelebrated with Father John Tallman as Main Celebrant, a lifelong friend of the Dreis family who served their funeral home as a funeral director before entering Seminary, and then Ordination to the Priesthood. The Rite of Committal will be held in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery family plot immediately following the funeral Mass. Those wishing to remember Marian Dreis in a special way may send a contribution to either Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, 433 State Street, 4th Floor, Schenectady, NY, 12305, or Albany Medical Center Hospital Neonatal Unit, 43 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY, 12208, or New York State Funeral Directors Association Tribute Foundation, 1 South Family Drive, Albany, NY, 12205.

Dear Mary Lou and Sue, so sorry to hear about your mom. I remember all the times the funeral home was packed to the rafters with Girl Scout cookies since she was the cookie chairwoman. Only she took on the monumental task of organizing girls, cookies and the business.

I still remember her giving me Oreo cookies. My dad passed away when I was only 24 and your dad handled things. Both your parents came to visit me at my apartment to check on me. I can still feel the love & remember her bringing homemade cookies and flowers. As a young child going to Our Lady Help of Christians school I remember how loving and kind she was. I know our Heavenly father welcomed her into his kingdom ...another angel on the other side. My prayers are with your family at this time.

Rest in heavenly peace Mrs. Dreis. If she were able, my mother, Ann Buehler Yakel, would be there playing a beautiful song on the organ for your Mass. Sending prayers to all the family and very happy memories.
