Mark Tarr Obituary

Tarr, Mark A. ALBANY Mark A Tarr, 65 of Albany, passed away on June 3, 2021, at home. Born in Syracuse, he is the son of the late Charles and Patricia Tarr, whom he adored. Mark attended Linton High School, received a bachelor's degree at Buffalo State and his master's in Social Work at SUNY Albany. Mark was a legislative analyst for the NYS Senate for 20 years as well as a legislative coordinator for State Watch, before retiring and going on to work as a resident counselor for The Center for Disabilities, where he brought his kind and tender personality to the very special "folks" he lovingly took care of. Mark enjoyed sunsets on the pier in Naples, Fla., was an avid reader and lover of all music, especially The Beatles. He also enjoyed playing his guitar for many years. His knowledge and intelligence allowed him to rarely miss an answer on Jeopardy. His love of coffee and ice cream made him a frequent patron of Stewart's and Dairy Queen where his dynamic personality allowed him to make many personal connections. Given Mark's joyful and contagious laugh, one couldn't help but feel uplifted after spending time with him. Mark will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Mark was a kind, loving and supportive brother to his surviving siblings, Andrea (Val) Robert, Terri (Ken) Schaefer, Patti (Tim) Wilson, Meg (Jamie) Rowe; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, Colonie. At 6:30 p.m. Pastor Jay will speak and we invite anyone wishing to share a story or memory to come forward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Disabilities Foundation, 314 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208. Beautiful obituary! I was Mark's upstairs neighbor for a year and a half. He was a very good neighbor. I never knew we had so much in common, being rather reserved myself. The world needs more people like him. An unexpected passing is especially sad - my heart goes out to his sisters and friends. May he rest in Heavenly peace.

Very saddened to hear of Mark's passing. My deepest sympathies to family and friends. I will always remember our early days of working together through ERDC to secure passage of Albany's Human Rights Ordinance. RIP Mark, you certainly helped to make your community a better place.

Very sad to hear of Mark's passing. I worked with him for quite a number of years at the Center for Disability Services. His patience and sense of humor was a blessing to the people we served.

Mark and I were friends since the 9th grade, almost 50 yrs. We had a million great times, traveled and did lots of crazy things as we grew up. Mark helped me decide on my Masters Degree in Social Work from hearing about his journey through college choosing social work as a carrier. I liked to make him laugh and challenge him to be silly! By nature he was reserved but always willing to join in when encouraged and maybe a beer or two was involved. He was part of our St Paul's Godspell Cast from when we were in 11th and 12th grade. He had a gorgeous singing voice. We are planning for a cast reunion in Aug for the cast and I was looking forward to catching up with him. Back in the day, Mark sang in Coffee Houses, played guitar and loved to entertain people. I never wanted to sing Karaoke if Mark was with me, it was too intimidating so I enjoyed watching him in his element. I am sorry I won't get to see you my friend but I know I will again! Have a peaceful journey on your way to your next adventure and I am certain singing with the choir of angles while watching over those he loves most!
