Marlene Larios Lyons

Lyons, Marlene Larios FORT MYERS, Fla. Marlene Larios Lyons peacefully passed away January 15, 2022. She was born November 17, 1937, in Kingston, N.Y., daughter of Leo and Camille Larios, graduated from Kingston High School, Brown University and in later years continued her education at the New York School of Interior Design and was a licensed real estate associate in Pennsylvania. In 1970, Marlene and her former husband, the late D. James Veras, and two daughters settled in the Wyoming Valley area of Pennsylvania, and resided in Shavertown, Pa., where they were partners in Veras Construction Co., dealing in land development, residential design and construction. Marlene volunteered and provided leadership in a multitude of community organizations. She was a member of the Junior League of Wilkes-Barre, volunteer at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Board Member of the Northeastern PA Philharmonic since its inception in 1972 through 1985, where she chaired the annual campaign and organized its fund-raising events, and served on the board of the Wyoming Valley American Cancer Society from 1972 through 1985, also serving as president and representative to the PA State Division of the American Cancer Society. She was the recipient of many awards for her work with the ACS, especially for instituting various education programs throughout the schools and business organizations in the Wyoming Valley. After her divorce in 1990, Marlene relocated to West Chester, Pa. and once again became involved in her community. She served as a docent in the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, was a member of the Chester County Art Association, Chester County Historical Society, World Affairs Council of the Greater Valley Forge Area, Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia, and a volunteer at the Chester County Hospital. In 1994, Marlene married Dr. Edwin L. Lyon and returned to the Wyoming Valley area where they resided in Dallas, Pa., until Ed's retirement and in 2003, moved to their home in Naples, Fla., always referred to by Marlene as "Paradise". Years later, they downsized to their condo in Bonita Springs, which afforded them more time to pursue their passion for art and their art collection and to travel the world. Marlene resumed her classical piano studies and volunteered in organizations devoted to promoting music education and opportunities for young people, particularly at the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University. Marlene always felt so blessed and enriched by her experiences. "I received more than I gave be it through volunteer work, involvement in community affairs, the arts, the world and most of all, our blended families. I have been fortunate!" She always said, "My favorite place in the whole wide world is my home. I am surrounded with everything I love family, music and art. My cup runneth over!' She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edwin L. Lyons; her loving daughter, NYS Senator Daphne Jordan and husband Philip Jordan; grandsons, Lane Heed and James Jordan, Halfmoon, N.Y.; daughter, Cynthia Tsioles and husband Nicholas Tsioles; grandsons, George, Zachary and Christopher Tsioles, Shavertown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic.
