ALBANY - Mary A. Burns, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to the late Michael and Grace Ryan, Mary grew up with a strong sense of family that carried throughout her life. She was the devoted wife of the late John A. Burns Jr., with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage.
Mary worked in a variety of roles over the years, including at Montgomery Wards, as a waitress at Friendly's, and later at the Albany VA Hospital before retiring. No matter the job, she was known for her kindness, her humor, and her ability to make friends wherever she went.
Family was the center of Mary's world. She cherished every gathering and had a special fondness for holidays, surrounded by those she loved. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures in life - spending time at the casino, family vacations, and making memories with friends and family alike. But above all, being a grandmother was the highlight of her life.
Mary will be remembered for her heart of gold, her warmth, and the joy she brought to others. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Heather and Michelle (Jimmy); two great-grandsons, Robbie and Anthony; and many dear friends who will miss her greatly.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her cherished son, John A. Burns III; and her brothers, George Ryan, Joseph Ryan, and Michael J. Ryan Jr.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y., on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Our Lady Of Angels Cemetery, 1389 Central Ave., Colonie, N.Y. 12205.
