Maryann Thouin Obituary

Thouin, Maryann A. GLENVILLE Maryann A. Thouin, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. She was born in Niskayuna on April 8, 1939, to Joseph Francis and Anita Thouin. She was a 1961 graduate of The College of Saint Rose. Maryann, "The Marm" as she was affectionately called by her family, taught third grade at Blessed Sacrament School in Albany for 43 years, retiring in 2004. Over her many years of teaching she taught generations of families. Every year her class would put on a school play and she spent countless hours making props and helping her students prepare. She was known for the gerbils she would have in her classroom. Her third graders would learn about caring for pets and she would give them to pet stores or students at the end of the year. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Janice Brown. Maryann is survived by her brother, Gene Thouin; sisters, Jackie Zeglen (Larry) and Donna Pisani (Vic); and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 13, at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Burial will follow in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions in memory of Maryann may be made to the Church of the Immaculate Conception. I just learned of this devastating news. I look back very fondly on my 9-10-year-old years, largely because of the people involved in them - and Miss Thouin ranked high among those people. I was part of her last third grade class before she retired; I consider that an immense honor.

Miss Thouin's penchant was her end-of-year plays that she organized for her students to partake in. I suppose there's no more fitting tribute to a wonderful teacher and person than to continue acting in our roles.
