Matthew King Obituary

King, Sr. Master Sgt. Matthew H.
SAND LAKE - Sr. Master Sgt. Matthew H. King, 38, passed into peace on Thursday, December 5, 2024. He was born August 17, 1986, in Albany, N.Y., to David and Denise King (nee Citro). Matt attended Averill Park schools graduating in 2005, surrounded by life long friends from those wonderful years. Matt joined the NYS Air National Guard when he was 18, building another family with the 109th Airlift Wing. His passions were many, and he further built a brotherhood with the Punishers Motorcycle Club, Taborton Volunteer Fire Company and life member of Poestenkill VFW Post 7466. Matt currently worked for CSX in Albany.
Matt graduated from Schenectady Community College with a degree in firefighting and later became a certified welder. In 2021, Matt was honored as National Honor Guard Airman of the year. In September of this year, he was promoted to the rank of E8, Senior Master Sergeant. Matt was a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
Matt had many skills, but laughter and practical jokes were his forte. Matt had a black belt in Karate, played soccer, football, a car collector, a motorcycle enthusiast, a hunter, but mostly a caretaker. He was the kindest, most thoughtful and generous person anyone ever knew.
Matt was the best son; a friend that was always there for you. He touched so many lives all around the world.
Survivors include his parents; sister, Tara Rutland (Rick); niece, Isabella; his loves, Lauren and Landon Hurley; aunts, uncles, cousins, and so many dear civilian and military friends. Please live as he did, kindness matters.
Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, December 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc., 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144. The funeral service will be the morning of December 17, at 11 a.m., in the Zion United Church of Christ, 741 Taborton Rd., Sand Lake, N.Y. 12153. Burial will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2 p.m. The Funeral Service on Tuesday will be live streamed on our Rockefeller Funeral Home Facebook page.
Contribution in Matthew's memory may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Those commercials always made him cry. As Matt would say, "Loveyoubye."

I knew Matt from a summer when I was living back home in Guilderland. He was sweet and funny and gave me a ride on his motorbike before I moved out of town. I didnt know him for long but I think of him fondly. I have tried looking him up a few times since then - my latest effort revealed this devestating news. I wish I could have stayed in touch. I send warmth and strength to the loved ones he left behind.

I was Matt's confirmation sponsor at the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park. I remember him as a kind and curious young man. Although I haven't seen him in years, I'm sure he grew up to be the kind of man that any community would be proud to know. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

To all of Matt's family, friends and everyone that he loved and loved him. He was part of our (Punisher) family as well. He meant so much to my husband and son as a friend and a brother. The way they talk and talked about Matt over the last 10 years. He truly was a one-of-a-kind human being. Our hearts are broken. We are forever grateful to his parents for raising such a kind and beautiful man. Dave, Tyler & Audra McGue
