AVERILL PARK - Michael P. Byrne, 83, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Leo F. Byrne and Elizabeth Marshall Byrne, and husband of Carole A. Jansen Byrne. Mike had resided in Averill Park for 55 years and was a switchman for N.Y. Telephone Company for almost 40 years. He also was the owner and operator of Brown Swan Antiques.
Mike was an avid and dedicated Valley Cats fan who held season tickets for many years. He was a member of the Northport Woodcarvers and he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. Mike was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Carole, include his four daughters, Theresa (Matthew) Rousseau of Clifton Park, Pamela Byrne of Saratoga Springs, Maureen Byrne of Naples, Fla., and Denise Byrne of Naples, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Sarah Byrne, Erin Rousseau and Shawn Rousseau. He was predeceased by his sisters, Katherine L. Flaherty and Maryellen Freer; and a special cousin, Elizabeth Magee.
Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 4392 NY 150, West Sand Lake on Thursday, March 9, from 5 - 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 10, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Edward Kacerguis, officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, West Sand Lake.
