I know it was a long time ago, but I played golf with Mike on a regular basis. I can only hope Im in the shape he was in when we played. Always stayed in touch at the holidays. I found of his passing quite a bit after. When I didnt hear back after leaving messages. Just a great man who I miss. God bless you for your friendship.

I wish to express my sympathy to Mike's family on their loss. I was saddened to learn of his death. I met Mike in 1961. It was the first day of school at Averill Park and the first day of my teaching career. I was the new French teacher at AP. Since Mike and I and Jay Frankel, who taught Industrial Arts, all lived in Schenectady, we commuted together to school that first year. Mike was warm and friendly with a great sense of humor so we all had quite a number of laughs on our commute. Mike had been teaching for a while and he gave me, a beginning teacher, a lot of good advice. I remember that he was a great admirer of Mark Twain and his classes were reading "Huckleberry Finn" . He would sometimes discuss important parts of the novel with me, or rather he was the teacher and I the student. When I visited him and Audrey, he would sometimes play Hal Holbrook's "Mark Twain Tonight" or Harry Belafonte live concert recording. When I left Averill Park in 1963 I stayed in contact with him for a couple of years but we drifted apart.
It was a pleasure to to have known Mike as he was a true gentleman, a friend, and a teacher dedicated to excellence.

I had the privilege of having Mike as an English teacher both in 8th grade, and high school. His love of literature was unparallelled, and I consider him one of the finest teachers I ever had. My deepest sympathies go out to you.

I too, was a student of your father’s at Averill Park – Class of 1963. At that time, I was not what you would consider a “stellar student”. It wasn’t until I completed my military service that I got my act together academically. He was a good man and teacher. I have often thought of your Dad and remember things he taught me. He had a big influence on me. I am just sorry I never had the opportunity to let him know that. I know you will all miss him.

I was a student of your father's at Averill Park, Class of 1964. He was a wonderful teacher and I will never forget him. He was a no nonsense teacher and we all learned something from him. I learned to love reading for which I will be eternally greatful.
My sincere condolences to you, his family. He will be missed by many, many people.

I was a student of your father's at Averill Park - Class of 1964. I regret that I never took the time to let him know what a wonderful teacher he was. My career has been enhanced by the writing skills he taught and I have always been appreciative. As I am sure you know, he had a wonderful sense of humor and passion for reading and then analysing and organizing your thoughts. I am sure he will be missed on so many levels. I did want to take the opportunity to let his family know that he was appreciated for the work he did. My sincere condolences on your loss. Treasure the good memories.

I graduated from APHS in 1968 and was Key Club President, which Mr. Chouffi advised. Great man. Great teacher. Great friend. When I lived in Niskayuna, I often saw him walking his dog at Schenectady Muni. I always reminded him of the headaches I caused him in Key Club. Sorry for his passing and your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family today.

Although the connection began as a a business association, I was grateful to get to know Mr. Chouffi and his family on a personal level. He was remarkable and admirable in so many ways, and I know he provided all his family with many wonderful memories to hold.
