Michael Melnik

Melnik, Michael TROY, N.Y. Mr. Michael Melnik, 83, of Town Office Road, Troy, N.Y., formerly of Green Street, Amsterdam, N.Y., passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County following a short illness. He was born November 11, 1924 in Korczyn (Sokal) Ukraine, a son of the late Lukas and Anna Klimczuk Melnik. Educated in Ukraine, he emigrated from Germany to Amsterdam, N.Y. in 1951 until he moved to his daughter's home in Troy, following his wife's death in 2004. He worked for Coleco Industries for several years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Amsterdam, and St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Watervliet, N.Y. He was also a member of the former Ukrainian-American Citizens Club. He was married to Irene Kapral in March 1944. She died December 30, 2004. He was also predeceased by his brother, Kindrat of Ukraine in 1985. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Marie Hakeem and her husband John of Troy; his late wife's daughter, Anna Stasyna; several nieces, nephews and cousins in Ukraine. The funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the funeral home with Panachyda at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
