Michael Smith Obituary
WATERVLIET - Michael D. Smith, 68, of Watervliet, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at St. Peter's Rehab.
Born on June 18, 1956, in Elizabeth Town, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Douglas and Lila Smith. Michael attended West Port High School and later graduated from HVCC. He dedicated many years of his life to working as a Preschool Teacher before transitioning to a role as a Supervisor for Home Health Aides, from which he eventually retired.
In his free time, Michael found joy in singing with the choir at the community center and at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Watervliet. He also cherished outings with his close friend Anna, enjoyed gardening, and was a passionate fan of his favorite baseball team, the New York Mets.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Smith, of Watervliet, N.Y.; his sister, Carol Smith, and her partner Tim Marshall of Westport, N.Y.; as well as his nephew, Steven.
Friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, N.Y. 12189. A ceremony will follow at 5:00 p.m.

So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. He was a beloved teacher of our children at the Seton Center. He always had a smile on his face and conveyed his love of the children he was responsible for. May he Rest in Peace.

We are so saddened to learn of Mike's passing. He was gentle man with such a soothing voice. So understanding of the little ones at Seton Day Care. Mike took my daughter under his wing and helped her and me through a rough time. I had the pleasure of working with him for graduation of the 5 yr olds heading to school. My Prayers go out to Diane and his family, Mike may you Rest in Peace.

We are so sorry to hear this. Both our daughters had Mike as a preschool teacher at Seton Center and loved him. ALL the kids loved him. He was like a "teddy bear." RIP, Mike, and thank you for all the love and care you gave over the years.
