Orlop, Nancy Jean
NISKAYUNA - Nancy Jean Orlop (Seitz, Hart), affectionately known as "Nana," passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, in Niskayuna, at the age of 85, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 19, 1940, in Schenectady, Nancy lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and an unshakable spirit.
Nancy was a devoted wife to the late Ronald Orlop and a nurturing mother to her daughters, the late Sherry Geib, Tammy Retz (John), and Jody Seitz Benton. She was also a proud stepmother to Val and John Orlop, treasuring each of them with pride and heartfelt love. Family meant everything to Nancy - so much so that she humorously "won the most grandchildren award," a title that perfectly captured her affection and joy in her growing family.
Alongside her husband, Nancy was co-owner of Orlop's Farm and Greenhouse, where her green thumb and business sense bloomed together. She later retired from her position as a North Colonie bus driver, where she was known for her warmth, reliability, and cheerful heart. Her love of nature, especially growing beautiful flowers and canning fruits and vegetables, reflected her patient and nurturing character. She found peace in simple pleasures - spending time with family, swimming, walking her many four-legged companions, and doting on her beloved dog, Diesel.
Beyond her home and family, Nancy was active in her community, participating in the Menands Farmers Market and with the Lishakill Senior Citizens, where her generous spirit continued to shine.
Nana's memory will be honored in the ways she lived - through shared laughter, cold beverages beneath a glowing full moon, and the sounds of Carole King and country music drifting sweetly through the air. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and love that will continue to bloom in all who knew her.
