Nancy Pozniakas Obituary

Pozniakas, Nancy
EAST SCHODACK - Nancy A. Pozniakas, wife of William J. Pozniakas, passed peacefully from this life, in the comfort of her home and surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, January 6, 2025. Nancy, age 70, was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on June 26, 1954, to parents, Edward C. and Mary (Kehoe) Welch. She was raised and educated in Rotterdam and, following high school, worked in health service assisting those with mental disabilities. She was married to Bill in 1997, and was employed by Market Strategies International in Clifton Park. Together, she and Bill enjoyed the gift of their family and the times spent with them. Her grandchildren filled her heart with pride. Nancy had many interests, and especially enjoyed vacations at the ocean, day trips, going out for meals, exercising at the YMCA, ceramics and Bible study. She appreciated reading, the character of older homes, the spring and autumn seasons, walks on trails and visiting Manchester Center, Vt. She was stylish, beautiful inside and out and deeply devoted to her friends and family. Nancy will be missed by all those who she loved and loved her. Nancy's family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Community Hospice for the care and support they provided to Nancy in her final days at home. In addition to her husband, Bill, Nancy is survived by her brother, Michael Welch; her children, Crystal and Nick Spizowski and Bill and Kelly Pozniakas; her grandchildren, Kaycee, Billy, Gregory, Simon and Myles; her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Kathy and Jim Grahek, Nancy and Ed Skowronek and Cynthia and Tom Daniels; as well as several nieces. A committal service, to which all are invited to attend, will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, May 2, 202,5 at 12 p.m. The cortege will depart from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, in Watervliet, at 11 a.m. A celebration of Nancy's life will follow the cemetery service at 1 p.m., at McGreivey's Restaurant, 91 Broad Street, in Waterford. i am so very sorry to hear of nancy's passing. i am just as sorry for the lack of communication between us; i just learned that we lost her very recently; perhaps a couple weeks ago, in fact. we became friends when i organized a loose sort of poetry group that met inside a record shop that i helped open in schdy., in early '88. this resulted in a quick friendship, attending numerous poetry open mic readings in several venues through the years, (ranging from a punk rock music club to folkie-style coffee houses) nancy's creative work often had a feminist/mythological base and theme. she was very encouraging, and inspiring, and i often sought her out for her critiques and opinions; i believe she had a degree in english/lit. or something similar.... it was a friendship that tightened beyond creative interests, and many food outings and walks were shared together, as well as birthday/christmas celebrations. she helped me get through many a broken heart, and was there for me when my sister died unexpectedly... she was so thrilled, and i can say, absolute happiest in her lifetime, when she married bill, and loved the idea of an instant family. she adored being a grandma to "little billy, and casey". i heard many stories through the years, of bill's fishing journeys, the day trips, vacations, restaurants, and family/holiday gatherings they enjoyed together. i think this was something she needed, and i know she strongly valued them....one year, i transplanted a sunflower plant into a pot, for her birthday. i had spilled a huge bag of seeds, while filling bird feeders, and they grew randomly. she was thrilled with this gift, and soon after, sunflowers popped up every year, at the home she loved and shared with bill; she would update me on their "progress". sun flowers became a sort of "theme" for us, and i will always think of her when i see them.
l will always remember her smile, bright as the sunflowers she loved, and her genuine, enthusiastic laughter. i took this photo not too far from the home she and bill shared, shortly after they married. i will miss you, dear ms. "fancy nancy". r.i.p, my friend. condolences to all who knew and loved her. we were the lucky ones.
