Nicholas Barbaro Obituary

CLIFTON PARK Nick Barbaro, age 22, of Clifton Park, N.Y., died on Friday, August 22, 2003 at Albany Medical Center Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile crash on August 21, 2003. He was born on June 22, 1981 in Albany, N.Y. Nick was a 1999 graduate of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park. In May, he graduated from Schenectady County Community College, where he obtained dual associates degrees in Music Theory and Music Business along with a teaching certificate in guitar instruction. Nick was blessed with an incredible intellect that encompassed multiple foreign languages and an aptitude for music, including vocal, guitar, French horn and piano. It was Nick's dream and goal to pursue educational research relating to the communicative processes between the human mind and music. He was also an accomplished swimmer, rower and inspirational guitar instructor who was currently teaching for the Community Education Program at the Schenendehowa Central School District. At the time of his death, Nick was enrolled at SUNY Albany, where he was pursuing multiple degrees in music, linguistics and cognitive science with a minor in French. Nick is survived by his loving parents, Cathi and Matt Barbaro of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his little sister, Juliana Rose, age 17 of Clifton Park. In addition to being her big brother, Nick was Juli's best friend in all aspects of her life and was the inspiration for her becoming a lifeguard. He was the grandson of Nunzio and Josephine Barbaro of Long Island and the late Fritz and Evelyn Segar Mayak. Nick gave the gift of life to many others through multiple organ donations and, in doing so, his spirit will live on. Funeral services will be held this morning at 11 a.m. from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Stillwater, N.Y. Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Nick to the Nicholas M. Barbaro Music Scholarship Fund, c/o Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Ms. Barbaro, I wanted to let you know that Nick was a pleasant person to sing with in the SCCC choir. We stood next to each other, laughing at the fact that we didnt know the words to the songs. He had a great personality and a contagious smile.

Your family will be in my prayers.

Sincerely,

I was shocked to hear of Nick's passing. Even though I had only known him for a short time, I had the honor of seeing his true character on more than a few occasions. He was, simply put, a wonderful person, and I'm glad he considered me a friend.

His love of music and his teaching ability will reach far into the future in the form of the students who learned with him. His family and his spirit will be in my prayers for sometime to come.

Keep playing, Nick...

Nick was a very kind person and I'm very glad that I had the pleasure of knowing him, however little time that was. Nick was an inspiration to us all; he had incredible talent. I attended S.C.C.C with Nick and performed in two plays, "Working" and "Machinal", with him at the college as well . I now attend U Albany and was looking forward to going to school with him again. I, and all of his friends from S.C.C.C will miss him dearly. To Nick's family, I extend my deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers. Nick we all love you and we will all miss you very much! The memory of your life is with us all to guide us and inspire us to be as successful as you would have been if your life hadn't been from you as soon as it had. Until we meet again . . .

I express my deepest condolences to Nick's family. My prayers are with you all. Nick is one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always was so motivated to learn as much as he could possibly know about music. I was impressed by his wealth of knowledge and his passion and ambition with music and Life. I have had so much fun singing with him in SCCC's Vocal Chamber ensamble, and was really blessed to hear his tallent and growth with his guitar over the years. I know he has made an impact in my life as he has with others. He was friends with everyone, always willing to help out. He was simply wonderful.
