Huban Family,
We are absolutely heartbroken at the loss of Nick "Niko" . The world was a better place with him in it. We're hard pressed to recall a time when he didn't have a smile on his face. Warm, generous and outgoing, he just loved people. More than anything though, he loved his family. He absolutely lit up when talking about his children and grandchildren. You were so lucky to have him in your lives. Wishing you strength as you learn to navigate the world without Niko in it. May his memory be eternal!

Nick, you were my mentor and my friend. You taught me more about the bar Business in 6 months then anyone else could have taught me in 6 years. I when to work at Mike Ezzo’s Carmella’s Cafe in October of 1988. We kinda knew each other from Sneaky Pete’s on the circle. Then while you ran the place I was training to move out to a new Carmella’s location. After your grilled me fir my background we established that your uncles, All Thomas’s knew my uncles all Salvaggio’s from that day on you only called me SALVAGGIO, loudly and directly. You mentored me like a younger brother. You were fair and firm cause you cared about me. I can’t share all our laughs and memories cause there was to many. But one of the best memory I’ll always have about you my friend was when you said SAlVAGGIO get behind that bar on a Friday afternoon and learn how to bartender this isn’t some fast food joint. I worked 10 years in fast food for one Company in multiple states prior. You circled the bar that Friday as you missed nothing and saw me with a bottle in my hand holding it from the bottom of the bottle a nervous wreck. You walked past the bar looked at me two a few more steps and doubled back. You said Salvaggio what the heck ( and then some) is wrong with you give me that bottle and proceeded to make it very clear in your way of teaching to show me how to properly handle a bottle from the top never the bottom and I never poured wrong again. The other of many many great lessons was when you said SALVAGGIO what do you see in that mirror and I said a Budweiser logo, he shook his head no. Then my Mentor said what do you see in that mirror over there I said a Coors Light logo, shook his head no again, pointed at another mirror and said do you see in that mirror , I said a Heineken Logo. He said SALVAGGIO, if you want to make it in this Business you Menes to realize the Pogo’s are for the our Guests, as he called them, the mirrors are for us to see around corners, Nick goes you need to see what may happen before it happens that’s what Operators see in those mirrors and don’t forget it !! A hundred more lessons and they served me well as with Mike Ezzo’s ( founder of Carmella’s) and Nick Huban’s mentoring I went o. To a successful Restaurant Career and as I started with. Nick Huban taught me more about the. Bar Business in 6 months then anyone else could have in 7 years. We remained and still were GREAT FRIENDS. Nick I love you and always will. GOD BLESS your children, there spouses , Mary and Judy. Thanks for all you did for me and not only me will miss you, my Guess is thousands of people in Albany County will miss you. Your are an Albany legend. Probably more Popular then anyone in my 58 years of life as ever seen. RIP, my Dear Friend and Mentor Thanks for all the lessons, Love YOU Buddy

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Nick's family. Living across the street from Latham Farms gave us the opportunity to enjoy, not only great ice cream cones and food, but allowed us to establish a great friendship with Nick, Mary and their children. May your memories sustain you during this difficult time. God Bless

I cannot begin to say what is proper.....Nick and his whole family...both sides all came from the same Latham area and were an Icon in that community...growing and living with my family since day one. Nick always went out of his way to spend time with me and that I will miss. I am shocked, sad and so sorry for this loss but he will always be remembered in my mind...Please stay strong and never forget all he had done.
