Norman Rosenthal Obituary

Rosenthal, Norman
SLINGERLANDS - Norman J. Rosenthal passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023, at The Loving Home in Glenville. He was blessed with his family members surrounding him on his final days.
Norman was born in Kingston on November 20, 1936. He was the son of the late Abraham and Celia Rosenthal. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Carol. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by his siblings, Drs. Robert Rosenthal and David Rosenthal.
Norman was the father of Amy Kennedy (Royal), Julie Thaler (late Richard), Lisa Reid, Marcy Leiman (Mitchell), and Randall Rosenthal (Rochelle); and grandfather of Heather Amarante (Matthew), Aaron Kennedy (Jamie), Gilad and Itai Thaler, Kahja and Amaya Reid, Hannah and Seth Leiman, Sadie and Emmett Rosenthal. He was the great-grandfather of Liliana and Michael Amarante, Ariana Kennedy, and Myles and Jaxon June. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Norma Ball.
He was especially enthusiastic about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a special relationship with his great-nieces and nephew, Stella and Marni Shepard, Tyler and Delia Hoffman.
He had a successful career as an insurance agent and consultant for 39 years with Prudential Insurance. In his retirement job, he drove a bus and car for the Beverwyck Retirement Community in Slingerlands. Norman was always the life of the party, and everyone loved being around him. He entertained those around him with jokes and stories.
He enjoyed a wonderful time in Aruba and in the Berkshires and traveling to various places with his wife and friends.
He always dreamed of following in his father's footsteps and becoming the president of his synagogue. He served at Temple Israel for three years as president and numerous years on their board of directors. He was a chancellor of the Knights of Pythias and was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.
The family would like to thank the compassionate support he received from the volunteers at Community Care, the Eddy, and the staff of The Loving Home, for keeping Norman comfortable during his bout with Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services will be held in the Temple Israel in Albany on Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. The funeral services will be livestreamed and may be viewed by visiting https://www.tialbany.org/livestream. Burial will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland. The period of shiva will be on July 20 and July 21, at the home of Carol Rosenthal in Slingerlands and on July 23 and July 24, at the home of Marcy and Mitchell Leiman of Needham, Mass.
The family requests that those wishing to remember Norman in a special way may make memorial contributions in his name to Temple Israel in Albany or to the Alzheimer's Association.
