Pasquale Sullo Obituary

Sullo, Pasquale "Pat" Ph.D.
COLONIE - Pasquale "Pat" Sullo Ph.D., 87, died Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on July 27, 1937, in New Haven, Conn., he was the son of the late Joseph Sullo and Theresa Onofrio Sullo and husband of the late Nancy A. Rooney. He was born and raised in New Haven, Conn., where he graduated from Notre Dame High School. His love of education led him to Troy, N.Y., where he earned his Bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while running his own coffee shop called Rouge et Noir.
Pat then enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam war, where he was a navigator and retired a Captain. During his time in the AF, he and his first wife, Faith, had two children, Teresina Carmela and Pasquale Joseph. He continued to study while serving in the Air Force, earning two Master's degrees. As the Vietnam war ended, Pat and Faith moved to Tallahassee Fla., where Pat attended FSU and earned his Ph.D. in statistics. After a brief stint at Temple University, Pat came full circle and returned to Troy as a Professor of Statistics at RPI for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. During his time at RPI, Pat and Faith had a 60-acre farm where they raised a multitude of animals, grew their own food, made maple syrup, hayed the fields and hosted family and friends.
Pat's musical talents began at the early age of five when he started playing the accordion. He played many musical instruments, but especially loved the standup bass and piano. This led to a lifelong love of jazz. He and his second wife, Nancy, enjoyed traveling, particularly to Italy.
Survivors include a son, Pasquale Sullo, Troy; a daughter, Teresina Sullo, Ojai, Calif.; a grandson, Luciano Fiore Sullo; a sister, Raffaela (Giro Sr.) Esposito; and a nephew, Giro Esposito Jr. He was predeceased by a grandson, Pedro Sullo; and a niece, Theresa Esposito. He was also the beloved "Pawdre" of Luna, Stella, and Talia.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m., with a service to follow at 4 p.m, with Rev. Edward Kacerguis officiating.
A private interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy.

Pasquale Sullo was stepdad to myself and my sister, Lynda. Let me tell you a little bit about him.

He was a brilliant intellectual, incredible conversationalist and a talented jazz musician who played many instruments with ease. I was amazed and stood in wonder every time he answered a question I had. No matter what subject, he was prepared and knowledgeable. I wanted to be as smart as he was. I got my thirst for knowledge and love of music from him .

He married my mother when I was about eight and my sister was a year and a half younger. He treated us as his own flesh and blood. I would never be Italian but I was honored and proud to be Italian adjacent.

I remember the bedtime stories with Daddy and the songs on Christmas Eve with Daddy on the accordion. I remember the summer in Patchogue where he made fish faces in the water and pretended to come after us. We'd scream and run away laughing. Then there was the regular running joke where he would catch one of us off guard, point and say with a grin on his face, "Pull my finger!"

Pasquale Sullo was the only father I ever knew. I bragged on him every chance I got. I felt special and honored to have him in my life. Rest in Peace Dad.

Pasquale and Teresina -
Our family´s deepest condolences to you for the loss of your dad.

Pasquale was one of our legendary customers at the Trojan Tap Room, and we developed a strong bond there.

I hung with Pasquale a lot outside of the restaurant, having drinks and dinner with him at the Capehouse, and occasionally late night cocktails at Margie´s in Troy. We both loved the jukebox there, your dad´s favorite song being "Mala Feminna" by Jerry Vale.

I introduced him to my future wife as "my other dad" when they first met, as he was an important part of my life in the 80s and 90s.

Thinking of you in this difficult time.

Joe DeGiorgio, Jr (wife, Suzanne)

I was fortunate to study under Prof Sullo during grad school in the 2000s. I was his teaching assistant for ENGR2600 (MAU) and learned immeasurably as his student and assistant. He was not part of my committee, but he often served as a sounding board and mentor. RPI and his students benefited from his expertise. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Pat Sullo. However I am also very grateful to have known him.
As a grad student @ RPI in the 1980's he was one of my mentors. It was his guidance ,support and honesty that allowed me to keep going. His statistical knowledge and high standards were legendary. His expertise in stochastic processes and reliabilty theory was profound. His love and knowledge of jazz (in its purest form) was apparent even to his grad students.
The world has lost a good man.
My condolences to his family.

With great respect and admiration.

My sincere condolences and sympathy goes out to Pasquale´s family! (We met when my orange cat went missing and he reached out to tell me there had been an orange cat visiting him, but sadly it was not my gal.) I have often thought of him these last 2 years when I would drive by his road and always looked to see if he happened to be out, but my timing was never right, as I never did see him again. He was a very lovely gentleman, that I´m sure will be missed by all who knew him, and I´m so very sorry for your loss!
