Philip Lipman Obituary

Lipman, Philip Fred ALBANY Philip Fred Lipman, age 83, of Albany, N.Y., died on Tuesday morning, January 1, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Mr. Lipman was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had been a Capital District resident for more than 60 years. He was a haberdasher and operated the former Snappy's Men's Shop in Albany, the Dad and Lad Stores located in East Greenbush and at Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany and the Paul Frederick Apparel in downtown Albany and was retired. He was a member of Temple Israel in Albany and the former Washington Lodge #85 F&AM in Albany. He was an Army veteran and served during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Leila Sontz Lipman; and his children, Paul (Susan) Lipman of Albany, Richard (Sandra) Lipman of Loudonville, N.Y. and Lori (Akiva) Calka of Albany; grandfather of Ben, Alison, Sharon and Adam Lipman; brother-in-law of Marcia Schaefer and her husband Richard of Delmar, N.Y.. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. The period of mourning will be held at Leila's home in Albany through Sunday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

To the Lipman family. Fred was a peach. His humor and a shoulder to lie on. Many years ago he nurtured a romance between us and on Dec 1 we celebrated oour 50th wedding anniversary. In looking at our wedding album there was Fred big as life. Oour heartfelt sorrow to you all as he will be missed by all. We called him the Mayor of Central Avenue.
