Phillip Mackenzie Obituary

CLIFTON PARK Phillip K. Mackenzie, 75, of Schuyler Ridge Residential Center and formerly of Ballston Spa, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at his residence. Born in Englewood, N.J., he was the son of the late Martin Luther Mackenzie and Esther Godden Steele. He was educated in Schenectady schools and was a graduate of Oneonta State Teacher's College. Mr. Mackenzie was retired from the Hudson School District where he was a special ed teacher at Ichabod Crane School. He also taught at Averill Park schools as well as at Jefferson Elementary School in Rotterdam. He was a member of the New York State Teachers Union. Phil loved classical music; he enjoyed photography, writing and computers and had taught computer science to special ed students. He was husband of Phyllis Blessing Mackenzie of Waterford; father of Craig L. Mackenzie and his wife Loretta of Waterford, Cheryl Mackenzie of Cohoes and the late Laurel Stern. He is brother of Guy Mackenzie of Syracuse; stepbrother of Douglas Mackenzie of Cary, N.C., Karen Clenney of Louisville, Ky. and Margaret Mackenzie of Bellingham, Wash. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Corey and Shaun Mackenzie; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rt. 32), Waterford. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in Schenectady. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in care of the funeral home office.
