Phyllis Gatta Obituary
SCOTIA - Phyllis Mary (Robinson) Gatta died on December 2, 2024. She was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on December 28, 1932, to George and Grace (Orser) Robinson. She was a lifelong resident of Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School in 1950. She worked at First National Bank during and after High School. In 1953, she married George A. Gatta. Together, they raised seven children. After her children were grown, Phyllis worked for 30 years for Catholic Charities of Schenectady County for the Senior Lunch Program.
She loved spending time with her large extended family. She also liked crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, board games, knitting, crocheting, and reading. Her family and friends benefitted from her cooking and baking, especially her Christmas cookies. Forever a Tartan, she and her husband enjoyed attending various athletic events at Scotia High. Later in life, she loved to have summer cocktail hours with Cambridge Manor friends on her patio. She was fortunate to benefit from many who supported and helped her, including Danny, Maureen, Margo, Audrey, Nancy, Mariann, Cindy, Kathleen, Nicole, and Diana.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 62 years, and two sons, George A. Gatta Jr. and Kenneth Gatta; and two sisters, Diane Cochran and Kay Morlock. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Rich Fennelly) Gatta, Susan (George) Stoyan, and Cynthia (Joseph) Hurley; her sons, Stephen (Mark Peterson) Gatta and John (Debbie) Gatta; and a daughter-in-law, Vivan (George) Gatta. Phyllis is also survived by two sisters, Lynne DiModugno and Doris Robinson; two brothers, George W. Robinson and Peter Robinson; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and a large extended Gatta family.
Calling hours will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Scotia, with a Mass to follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Schenectady City Mission or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are appreciated in memory of Phyllis.

We were very sad to hear the news of Phyliss' passing. Steve and I enjoyed our visits since moving in upstairs from her. She always spoke about how much she missed my mom since her passing, and I like to think they are now enjoying a cocktail on heaven's patio together as I write this. May God bring the entire family peace and comfort during this time and know how very much she treasured each of you.
