Ralph SanFelice Obituary

SanFelice, Ralph
Saratoga Springs - Ralph A. SanFelice, 91, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. He was the son of Francesco and Angeline (Caputo) SanFelice.
Ralph was born on June 3, 1932 in Saratoga Springs. He was educated in the Saratoga City School District and graduated from Saratoga High School, class of 1950. He attended Albany Business College in 1951, then entered the US Navy from 1952-1956, aboard the USS Albany, CA-123. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Albany Business College and completed his degree. He then began his long, successful career with various NYS agencies, retiring from the Wilton Developmental Center in 1988.
Ralph was a standout basketball player in both high school and college, becoming the "Comeback Player of the Year" at ABC. In later years, he was an avid golfer, bowler and bocce ball player, as well as an enthusiastic Boston Red Sox fan. He belonged to many clubs including the Italian-American War Veterans, Smaldone Post, where he was a past commander, and the Principessa Elena Society, both in Saratoga. His interests included gardening and card playing, and he was a passionate movie buff with an extensive classic movie collection. It wasn't unusual to see him dancing up a storm at many a family gathering. Ralph enjoyed weekly Sunday visits of coffee, desserts, and conversation with his family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend to many. He will be truly missed.
Ralph is survived by his sister-in-law, Theresa (the late Joseph) SanFelice, of New Jersey; his cousin, Agatha Simeone of Florida; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnephews and nieces; and his good friends, Ralph and Delores Grasso. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Adelaide Maiello; his brothers, Sylvester SanFelice, Sylvester "Red' SanFelice, Frank SanFelice, and Joseph SanFelice.
The family would like to thank Ralph's doctor, Dr. Julie Phillips, his nurse, Sarah and social worker, Laurie from the VA; his home nurses, Bridgette and Yunis; his personal caregivers from Home Instead, especially Mary Jo and Anita; and the staff at Saratoga Hospital and Wesley Health Care Center.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866. Burial will immediately follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ITAM War Veteran's, 247 Grand Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866, or the Principessa Elena Society, 13 Oak Street, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866, or St. Peter's Church, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866.

I met Ralph at the ITAM about eight years ago. He and Ralph Grasso taught me to play Bocce Ball while enjoying drinks with the two teams After a few weeks, he said to stop giving me advice, he said I was getting too good. I guess he was a pretty good teacher! A wonderful, classy gentleman.

He will be greatly missed by my mother and father , Ralph and Delores Grasso. They were friends since school and all their lives . They spent hours playing cards and hanging out . They both would tell stories about each other and make each other laugh . He was a wonderful friend .

Ralph was the kindest boss I ever had. He was so fair and no other manager garnered the respect he earned. Making him laugh was a daily goal. Simply the best.
