Richard Becker Memoriam

Becker - Richard
To the memory of Richard Becker, Sr., who died on January 12th in Naples, Florida. While technically our stepfather, he really was a second dad to us. Dick was devoted to Myrna Y. Becker (our mother and mother-in-law) for 47 years before she passed in 2021. We were fortunate to have shared so many good times with him. We enjoyed Dick's passion for music; his baby grand piano was his most prized possession.
Dick was proud of his German-Hungarian roots in Ridgewood, Brooklyn and Queens, where so many of his relatives landed from Sekitsch (now Serbia) in the 1920s. In his professional life, Dick was proud of his architectural accomplishments, including his work for the New York State Construction Fund at the time the SUNY System was being built. In retirement, Dick spent many years in a leadership role with the Capital District Humanist Society, along with our mother. Dick was a life-long learner, reading philosophy well into his 80s. We will miss his intellect and good humor.

I knew Dick and Myrna through the Capital District Humanist Society, where both were active and dedicated. Over the years Dick filled many roles on the Executive Council and for a while penned a column, Humanist Happenings, in CDHS's newsletter. Dick and Myrna were engaging people and I'm so glad I got to know them. My condolences to the entire family.
