Richard Duda Obituary

Duda, Richard
ALAJUELA, Costa Rica - Richard Lawrence Duda, 47, passed away suddenly and tragically, in Alajuela, Costa Rica, on April 14, 2025, due to a blood clot in his lung. Born in Albany, N.Y., November 21, 1977, to parents Maureen Duda of Loudonville and Lawrence Duda of Albany, he was educated at St. Pius X School and Christian Brothers Academy, Pace University and DePaul University. He served four years in the Navy, and then pursued teaching ESL in Costa Rica, where he met the love of his life, Jenny Alvarado Delgado. After their marriage, for many years he worked all over the Mideast countries as a Defense Contractor for the United States. Currently he was working via helicopter for Geodigital International. He leaves behind his wife, Jenny; and his children and stepchild, Aidan Duda-Allwood , Za'laysia Johnson, and Matias Gonzalez Alvarado. In addition to his parents, he leaves behind siblings, Jonathan Duda (Audrey Bear) and Stacey Paradiso (Paul); Uncle, Michael Nardacci; cousin, Annmarie Kelly; and also his dear friend and frequent mentor, his Mom's longtime partner, Bob Girouard. He will also be missed by his doggie pals, Luna and Buzz. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening in the greenhouse he built, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. One of his proudest days was seeing his son Aidan enter into the U.S. Army and survive a blistering boot camp. All will miss his dry wit and insightful observations of world affairs. A memorial service and Mass will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Menands, N.Y.

Dear Duda family,

Richard was my classmate at St. Pius X. I remember him so fondly, he was always so kind and so funny. He kept our class laughing and turned ordinary school days into days filled with fun and laughter.

I am very saddened to hear of his passing.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

To the Duda Family,
I am so sorry to read about your loss. It´s been sometime since I have seen you but if he was as kind as his dad who took care of my mouth through multiple traumas, then he is a tremendous loss

What a dear child and brave man to have served his country in such a way. Teo just sent me an obituary on Richard, and all I could think of is it isn't fair to lose the good ones so young.

Stacey told me how Elizabeth just loved the robotics with her cousin, Richard. I wasn't the least surprised!

Our kids, they certainly found adventurous lives to live. I guess that is the path the Lord chose for them.

May you feel the tears I feel for your families today, Love to all, Aunt Laura Duda and daughter Elizabeth, and of course Uncle Steve in heaven!

Dear Duda Family,
We were so sorry to hear of your loss. I am not sure if you remember me, but I was Richard's fourth grade teacher at St. Pius X. Richard was in one of my first classes. He was certainly a memorable student! I remember one day I had a paper with no name on it (a very common occurrence in 4th grade). We had a conversation that went something like this:
Me: Richard, I'm pretty sure this is your paper. Please come put your name on it.
Richard: Oh no, Mrs. Kirshenbaum, I'm sure I put my name on it. (Picture his impish grin here).
Me: Richard, no big deal, but please come look again.
Richard pops over to me desk and looks at the paper. Even bigger smile.
Richard: Hey Mrs. Kirshenbaum, you're right. Well, I know I put it on, now it's not here. It must have fallen off!
Always the jokester.

Richard holds a special spot in the hearts of me, Larry, and our sons, Kevin and Kyle. He gave us our wonderful kitten that we named Mickey. Someone had abandoned a kitten at Dr. Duda's office, and you were trying to find it a good home. I had told my class that I had seen a mouse in our kitchen. I started getting "anonymous" notes on my desk. "We still have the kitten." "Dad's secretary tried to take him but found out she is allergic to cats." "He will be a great mouse catcher." And finally, "Mom says she can bring him in on Friday."
So, on Friday, Maureen brought the cutest kitten in a shoe box, I brought him home, and our family named him Mickey the Mouse Catcher.

It was not surprising to see that Richard chose a life of serving others in the Navy and being an ENL teacher. Even now, donations can be made to the Humane Society. Richard's kindness never changed!

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family as you go through this difficult time.

Maureen, I am so sorry about your tragic and sudden loss of your son who was a gift to the world. I pray for your peace and comfort as you deal with this terrible blow to your life. The loss of a child is probably one of the worst tragedies for anyone to bear in this life. My sincerest condolences.
