BALLSTON SPA - Richard J. Herbs, age 86, died peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Center in Clifton Park, N.Y. Richard was born on May 4, 1938, in Cohoes, N.Y., and was the son of the late Joseph P. and Theresa G. (Martin) Herbs.
Richard, known to many as Dick, graduated from Waterford High School in Waterford, N.Y., Class of 1956, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force until his discharge in 1960. Following his service, he pursued his passion for engineering, earning an associate's degree in electrical engineering from Lowell Technological Institute in Lowell, Mass. On April 24, 1960, he married the love of his life, Lucille Rospo, and together they built a beautiful life. Dick enjoyed a fulfilling career as an Electronics Specialist at GE Research and Development in Niskayuna, N.Y., where he worked until his retirement in 1998. Outside of his career, Dick attained both his private and commercial flying licenses, embracing the freedom of the skies alongside his good friend Bill as flying companions. An avid golfer, Dick was a regular on the back nine and continued to enjoy the sport up until recent times. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love for flying, and his passion for golf.
Richard is survived by his loving and devoted family: wife, Lucille Herbs; his wonderful children, Michael J. (Bobbie) Herbs, Timothy J. (Lauren) Herbs, and Judith (John) Sparks; his adored grandchildren, Christopher, Steven, and Kayla Herbs; his dear brother, Joseph F. Herbs; and nephews, Dr. Kelly (Jennifer) Herbs and Zachary Herbs - all to him were a blessing and a joy to be cherished for a lifetime.
A private celebration of his life will be held by his family.
Interment with military honors will be held privately at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y.
