Peterson Sr., Richard
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - Richard Wesley Peterson Sr., aged 79, passed away on August 23, 2024, in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Born on August 9, 1945, in Niskayuna, N.Y., Richard lived a life marked by a quiet spirit and an appreciation for the simpler things.
Richard graduated from Colonie High School and shortly thereafter began a long-standing career at the Albany International Paper Company, where he worked from 1966-2008. Outside of work, Richard was a man of many interests. He was an avid camper and took great joy in raising many foster children. His love for animals was evident in the companionship of his beloved pets, Stinky, Tank and Kate. Later in life, he became an enthusiastic QVC shopper, always on the lookout for new finds.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard (Stephanie) Peterson Jr.; daughter, Michelle Wilsey; grandchildren, Randy Wilsey, Justin Civill, Zachary Peterson and Alexandra (Evan) McElroy; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Liam McElroy. He also leaves behind his brother, Carl (Barbara) Peterson Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Meisner) Peterson; parents, Carl and Liliane (Gagnon) Peterson Sr.; his twin brother, Robert Peterson; his nephew, Brian Yanas; and foster daughter, Mary Jane (Smith) Peltier. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no memorial service.
