WATERVLIET - Rita M. Brooks, 98, died peacefully, Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the Eddy Heritage House, in Troy, with her beloved family beside her. She was born in Beekmantown, N.Y., on February 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Bernadette Virginia (Goddeau) Lavarnway.
In 1933, at the age of 7, her family moved to Nashua, N.H., where she resided when she was married on January 7, 1946 to the late Raymond C. Brooks, Jr. She moved to Watervliet, N.Y. in 1952, where they raised their family.
Rita was employed by Jupiter Textile Mill, Convert Manufacturing Co., and last by the Watervliet Arsenal, where she retired on October, 1986 after 17 years of service.
She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society and most recently the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Rita enjoyed camping with her family and arts & crafts.
She was the wife of the late Raymond C. Brooks, Jr. who died in 1994; beloved mother of Muriel Ann (late Jim) Day of Halfmoon, Paul E. (late Darla) Brooks of Watervliet, Janet Lee Brooks of Clifton Park, Mary (late George) Van Vranken of Waterford, Raymond C. (late Chris) Brooks, III of Watervliet and Michael Anthony (Yui) Brooks of Manchester, N.H.; dear sister of the late Leona Beatrice (late Bob) Henderson of Watervliet, Agnes Caron, Ernest, Larry, Oscar and Leo Lavarnway. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Barna officiating.
