Robert Grabowski Obituary

Grabowski, Robert F. Sr.
GLENVILLE - Robert F. Grabowski Sr., known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at the age of 94, in Glenville, N.Y.
Born on November 20, 1930, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Sidney and Tozia (nee: Knoll) Grabowski. Bob's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Scranton, where he attended North Scranton Junior High and Central High School. His academic prowess and curiosity about the world around him led him to pursue higher education at Bucknell University, Class of 1953, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering. This was not only an academic achievement, but also the foundation of a long and distinguished career. Throughout his professional life, Bob's expertise and dedication to his craft as a mechanical engineer brought him and his family to various states across the country, including Portland, Maine, St. Louis, Mo., Edison, N.J., Springfield, Mass., and finally Scotia, N.Y. His career with the General Electric Company was marked by innovation and mentorship, and upon retirement, he left behind a legacy of contributions to the field of engineering. Bob's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who loved the simple pleasures in life. An avid New York Giants fan, he rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering on his team. His love for fishing and spending time at the lake provided him with a sanctuary where he could relax and reflect. A man with a green thumb, Bob was an avid gardener. He took pride in canning vegetables and was renowned for his delicious pickles and homemade "Spiedie Sauce," which became a much-anticipated treat among friends and family.
Bob's faith was an integral part of his life. As a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, he served his community with humility and grace, embodying the teachings of his faith through his actions and the kindness he showed to others.
In addition to his parents; Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan A. Grabowski, who passed on December 10, 2024; and his siblings, Sidney Grabowski, George Grabowski, Marie Grabowski Chilton Meseroll, and Jean Grabowski Mattern.
He is survived by his children, Robert Jr., of Glenville, Richard (Jane), of Madison, Ala., Susan (Rob), of Northford Conn., David (Patti), of Bel Air Md., and Ellen (Tim), of Bradenton Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Grabowski; and nephew, Forrest S. Chilton IV, who was like a brother to Bob.
A calling period will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 812 Union St., Schenectady, N.Y. 12308, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following.
Entombment will take place in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St., Schenectady, N.Y. 12308.

Yesterday

I am so sorry for your loss.
My most vivid memory of Uncle Bob is actually of Uncle Bob and Aunt Joan. For a short period of time after they were married they lived with us in Metuchen. One evening they came in for supper absolutely joyful - they had just rented an apartment in New Brunswick. In fact, they were so joyful that they had driven to Scranton to tell Nana and Dada (a 6-hour round trip drive)! Even at 8 years old I was struck by the joy of their marriage.
