Robert Sharp Obituary

Sharp, Robert D. ALBANY Mr. Robert Donald Sharp died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2015, in his Albany home at the age of 90. Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his children, Robert Jr., Peter, Christopher, and Jennifer; and grandchildren, April, Georgia, Alexander, Katharine, Robert III, Addison, Kaya-Jane, Edgar, Hugh, Virgil, and Angus. He is predeceased by his daughter, Gail. His children remember him as a dedicated father, full of energy, playful, sometimes silly, and always ready to help those around him. Bob was born on July 4, 1924, in Brooklyn to Elizabeth Lillian, (nee Halloran), and Harry Gale Sharp. During World War II, he served as signalman second class in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS McLanaham, defending the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated from Purdue with a degree in entomology. During his career, he worked in product evaluation, production, sales and management. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Robert married Jeanette Sharp, Ph.D. (nee Poppa), in 1966. They were happily married for 48 loving years. Together, Jeanette and Bob supported each other in raising their children and helping one another to realize their career goals and pursuits. Bob loved dogs, and they loved him. Over the course of 70 years, he became known as an accomplished dog handler, breeder, and an American Kennel Club and international judge, traveling throughout the world. Funeral services were held privately for the family. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date. Those wishing to remember Bob in a special way may send contributions to The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144, or The Seeing Eye, Inc., P.O. RIP BOB

This is my second post about the passing of Bob Sharpe. My feeling about him have not diminished. I, Constance Holt was a child when met Bob Sharpe. He handled and showed an impressive Newfoundland name "Thunder" owned by Marvin Frank. Yes, my family bred Newfies then. We competed on a regular time. Bob was also a successful handler of multiple Lhasa Apsos. He amazed me how he was so humble and very warm with people who he ever met or guided. His career then went on to be an AKC approved judge. That phase of his life was also successful where ever he went. Now many years later, I will always remember Bob Sharpe as apart of my early dog show career. May he be granted "Eternal Life". Be in Peace sir.

My first memory of Bob Sharpe was when he(handler then) campaigned a Newf named Thunder. I was a new junior handler then who showed my family's Newfs. I was so very impressed with Bob being a gentleman, approachable, kind to answer my questions, He will be greatly missed. I send my condolences to his wife and entire family.
