Robert D. Sharp

Sharp, Robert D. ALBANY Mr. Robert Donald Sharp died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2015, in his Albany home at the age of 90. Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his children, Robert Jr., Peter, Christopher, and Jennifer; and grandchildren, April, Georgia, Alexander, Katharine, Robert III, Addison, Kaya-Jane, Edgar, Hugh, Virgil, and Angus. He is predeceased by his daughter, Gail. His children remember him as a dedicated father, full of energy, playful, sometimes silly, and always ready to help those around him. Bob was born on July 4, 1924, in Brooklyn to Elizabeth Lillian, (nee Halloran), and Harry Gale Sharp. During World War II, he served as signalman second class in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS McLanaham, defending the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated from Purdue with a degree in entomology. During his career, he worked in product evaluation, production, sales and management. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Robert married Jeanette Sharp, Ph.D. (nee Poppa), in 1966. They were happily married for 48 loving years. Together, Jeanette and Bob supported each other in raising their children and helping one another to realize their career goals and pursuits. Bob loved dogs, and they loved him. Over the course of 70 years, he became known as an accomplished dog handler, breeder, and an American Kennel Club and international judge, traveling throughout the world. Funeral services were held privately for the family. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date.
