Roger Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Roger William LANESBORO, Mass. Roger William Wilson died suddenly in the early morning of Monday, February 22, 2010. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen "Kas" Maroney of Pittsfield; his father, Glenn Wilson and stepmother, Michele Wilson of Dalton; brother, Timothy Wilson and wife Andrea Gifford and their two sons, Anderson and Jairus of Cottage Grove, Ore.; sister, Jeanette Wilson and fiance Colin du Mee of Medford; sister, Marilyn Anderson and husband Eric Anderson of Albany, N.Y.; sister, Marissa Wilson of Dalton; grandparents, William J. Maroney Jr. and Norma Maroney of Lee, Roger and Shirley Wilson of Lanesboro. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He attended both Wahconah Regional and Pittsfield High School. After completion, he enjoyed working as a cook and facilities personnel in both Berkshire County and Albany, N.Y. Roger touched the lives of so many with his caring, intelligence and ever-present sense of humor. From a very young age, Roger had a great love of nature and a passion for reptiles, resulting in a volunteer internship at the Berkshire Museum Reptile Exhibit. As well as being an avid reader, Roger also enjoyed many sports including skateboarding, mountain biking, dirt biking, snork-eling, swimming, fishing and especially skiing. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, traveling to Cape Cod, Lake Placid, Fla., Barbados, Mexico and Ore. His family and friends will miss the fun and creativity that Roger brought to everything he did. Memories of car rides, beach trips, cooking dinner, always included laughter. Roger's quick wit and big heart were a blessing to all who knew him. We will always hold him in our hearts and treasure the time that we had. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Pittsfield, 175 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, Mass. Donations can be made in the memory of Roger Wilson to the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Mass. Arrangements, Dery Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

Kas, Tim, Jeanette, Mary, Glenn and Michele, and the Wilson and Maroney families,

I am so saddened by Roger’s untimely passing. I learned of it from Jon when I arrived in California for an extended business trip which prevents me from expressing my condolences in person.

. . . so many memories come to mind . . . the neon-green bedroom – and matching green hair, the python lost in the house for three months – and the day it reappeared, the million times Roger tried to do a flip-kick on his skateboard in the driveway, the holiday waffle brunches filled with laughter, the charter fishing boat on the Cape when Roger caught the biggest – and only – flounder, trips to the beach, the Wilderness Lodge at Disney World, and many wonderful Maroney family gatherings - especially at Christmas. These are some of the memories of Roger that I cherish in my heart.

Blessings and Peace to you all,
Dave “Dyl” Spangler

Dear Glenn, Michele, Marissa, Roger & Shirley, A few words can comfort a broken heart, a personal memory can bring a smile to a tear-stained face...the assurance of prayers can help those who are grieving...and as Christians we can say with confidence, "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." Dear Shirley,Roger,Glenn,Michele, and Marissa,I am so sorry and numb for your loss. Tears, prayers, and loving thoughts are with you. I have some fun memories of Roger especially around SS class. And yes,he was probably the most well mannered guy in the class. But he did have a few run-ins with Sherrif Deb Oakes. We worked it out and tough Deb conceded to two donuts as long as everyone got at least one.A few times I would see him with three or four!My kind of guy. I remember Michele telling him that Val can laugh louder than him.He looked skeptical but was shocked when I did. I can't think of any faults except his love of reptiles.I house sat once and Michele gave me a choice of Roger's room or another. The snake wasn't there but no way!But Roger,I'm glad you loved them as God's creatures and I wiil remember you to The Berkshire Museum. We have hope and will see you on the Resurrection Morning. There will be no more tears and joy forevermore! Love you all,Val and Celia

“Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there — I do not die. ”
