Ronald Allen Obituary

Allen, Ronald Vanderford
CLIFTON PARK -
Ronald Vanderford Allen, 86, passed away at home on January 19, 2025, with family by his side, after a long illness. He was born on September 28, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Ruth Hall and James Allen. Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Susan; and their two daughters, Kim, and her husband, Mark Smith, and Stacy and her husband, Jeff Corbo. He was the treasured "Bampa" to his grandchildren, Mark, Katie, Gavin, and Eli, who brought immense joy to his life. Ron was predeceased by his beloved son, Scott Vanderford Allen; and brothers, Thomas and James Allen.
Ron graduated from Averill Park High School in 1956. He furthered his studies at Virginia Military Institute, and proudly served in the New York National Guard for seven years. On January 8, 1965, Ron married his loving wife, Susan Briscoe. Ron dedicated 41 years of his life to working at the U.S. Geological Survey, focusing on groundwater for the state of New York.
In his leisure time, Ron was an avid reader who enjoyed playing golf and volleyball, and spending time at Saratoga Raceway and Casino. In his retirement, Ron and Sue enjoyed trips abroad, and yearly trips to South Carolina and Florida.
Ron will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, funny poems, love of chess and other games, and his dedication to family, especially his grandkids. His smile, wit, and gratitude lasted until his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, 2-6 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn., 30 Clifton Country Rd., Clifton Park. A private Burial will be held at Sand Lake Union Cemetery at a later date. Special thanks to Community Hospice of Saratoga who helped care for Ron, especially Annah, Rosalie, Lorie, and Colleen. Contributions in Ron's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 1003 Loudon Rd., Cohoes, N.Y. 12047, or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga, N.Y. 12866.
