VOORHEESVILLE - Ronald F. Calkins, 77, of Voorheesville, passed away March 11, 2025, at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Schenectady on November 20, 1947, he was the son of Francis C. and Stanislava "Sadie" Stepnowski Calkins. Ron was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools, graduating from Linton High School, and then Siena College with a degree in accounting. During the Vietnam War, Ron was drafted and served with the U.S. Army in Nha Trang, Vietnam. He was currently a utility supervisor for the Office of Accounting, Audits and Finance at the Dept. of Public Service, Albany, serving for 55 years. Ron loved the outdoors and was passionate about looking out for wildlife. He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially basketball. He also collected old books and sought out unique treasures in antique shops. Ron is survived by his brother, Gary W. Calkins of Guilderland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Patrick. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, P.O. Services will be at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, on Tuesday, March 18, starting with a visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a service at noon.
