Kratzer, Ruth M.
ALBANY - Ruth Marlene Kratzer (née Mackey), 76, of Albany, N.Y., passed away peacefully, October 7, 2025. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and raised in Tabor, Iowa, Ruth lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those around her.
Ruth graduated from Fremont-Mills High School and went on to earn her nursing degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She dedicated nearly 20 years to a career in nursing, compassionately caring for countless patients. Her commitment to helping others continued as she transitioned into medical billing and coding, eventually earning her Bachelor's degree from Bellevue University.
On September 15, 1968, Ruth married the love of her life, Robert Kratzer. Their marriage was a testament to deep love, partnership, and mutual respect until Robert's passing.
Ruth's heart was always with her family. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Tamara; son, Daniel (Sean); her sister, Bertha Kasten; and her sisters-in-law, Nancy (Abbot) Mackey and Donna (Cole) Mackey; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert; her parents, Dallas H. and Fern M. (Tackett) Mackey; siblings, David, Harriet Johnson, and Tom; and brother-in-law, Herb Kasten.
A devoted Christian, Ruth lived her faith daily through her kindness and service to others. She had a quiet strength and a generous spirit, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her gentle presence and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ruth's family Monday, October 13, 2025, 12 to 1:30 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, N.Y. 12206. Her Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
