Ruth M. Sorensen

Sorensen, Ruth M. WATERFORD Ruth M. Sorensen, 94, formerly of Murray Ave. died Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Born in Poughkeepsie she was the daughter of the late Albert Meeson Sr. and Pearl MacKay Meeson. Ruth had been employed as a waitress at the Desmond Hotel in Colonie for 20 years before her retirement. Prior to that she was employed at Smith's Restaurant in Cohoes and several other area restaurants. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford and a member of the Waterford Senior Citizens and Waterford Ladies Bocce League. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed trips to the casino. She was known as the family historian and enjoyed recounting stories of family events. Ruth was the widow of Walter J. Sorensen Sr. who died in 2011. She is the loving mother of John Sorensen (Donna), Carol Burniche (Ed), and Walter Sorensen Jr. (Susan) all of Waterford and the late Albert VanderVoort. She is the mother-in-law of Josee VanderVoort of Florida. She was the sister of the late Robert Meeson, Ethel Fogarty and Albert Meeson Jr. Ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as her dear friends, Jean Morse and Jean Wells. A special thank you is extended to Alice Parissi for all her friendship, love and support to Ruth and her family. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 9 a.m., from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Waterford Public Library or the Wounded Warriors Project in care of the funeral home office.
