McCaffrey, Sam E. ALBANY The family of Sam E. McCaffrey is heartbroken to announce his passing in the early morning hours of October 24, 2019. Sam was a true renaissance man whose love of music, art, and history encompassed his life. Sam was happiest riding "top-down" in his Jeep Wrangler through the Adirondack Mountains listening to his favorite tunes. His kindness, charisma and benevolent nature made him loved by all who met him. Sam was a curious life-long learner with many interests. He could be found birding in the woods, volunteering at Saratoga Battlefield, attending a book reading or visiting a museum immersed in the beauty of art. Music fed his soul and attending live music events was his church. Sam was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, SUNY Potsdam and The Rockefeller School of Public Policy. He was employed by the New York State Teachers Retirement System. He is survived by his parents, Karen Kramarchyk and Tim McCaffrey; his loving sisters, Tess Lorraine and Emma Kate McCaffrey; his soulmate and boon companion Ashleigh Williams; his best friend Geoffery Vanderwoude; and his tribe of like-minded souls, DJ, Ben, Mary, Kevin, Zach, Nick, Andrew, and Alice, you know who you are. A celebration of Sam's life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, 405 Washington Avenue, Albany. All are welcome to attend. Sam you were undoubtedly one of the most genuine, intelligent, and humorous people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. I know we only worked together for a little bit, but I very much enjoyed all of our late night conversations while cleaning tables at the end of the shifts. You were wise beyond your years and frankly a pleasure to talk with. I had no idea until a couple of days ago that you had left this world. Truly heart breaking. May you rest in peace good sir.

Sam,

Thank you for keeping DJ busy on Friday nights for the past year and a half since I go to bed at 8pm. I don't know what heaven is like, although I can imagine it's much like Tincture of Time and Delaware supply.. that sells Miller Lites. Although I can only name about three birds, I promise every time I see one I will think of you. I know I will see you again and that thought is as comforting as your afghan. Love you Sam.

I had the pleasure of working with Sam at Pioneer Bank in Delmar. What a joy and such a smart, down to earth young man. I am so incredibly sad for his family and friends and for the unfulfilled promise of a life too short. I will always remember the laughs, the arguments and the little boy antics of my "work son." He was a kindred spirit in so many ways. Who else would carry a copy of the Constitution in his pocket? Rest well, my friend, you will be forever missed.
