BALLSTON SPA - "Sam" Samuel C. Abate, 68, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Sam was born in Troy, N.Y., to Anthony and Silvia Abate on April 25, 1957. He was a graduate of Troy High School. He worked for the N.Y.S. Department of Motor Vehicle, before retiring in 2012.
Sam loved building things, gardening, watching the birds, playing pranks on people, and most of all spending time with his family. He had a true servant's heart, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was an active member of Grace Fellowship of Saratoga.
Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Donna (Blair) Abate of 44 years; as well as his mother, Silvia (Buffone) Abate; children, Nicole (Brian) Matthews and Sammy (Nikesha) Abate; two loving grandchildren, Jude and Lily Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Anthony Abate; and his sister, Maryann (Abate) Johanning.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, September 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High St., Ballston Spa. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Fellowship, High Rock Ave., Saratoga Springs, on Wednesday, September 3, at 1 p.m.
