I got to know Prof. Sternstein in the late '60s while working as a technician in Prof. Wunderlich's lab across the hall. His keen intellect and strong work ethic were impressive and immediately apparent. Amongst the chemistry majors in MRC his rigorous graduate engineering courses were considered excellent preparation for a career in polymer science, but also very challenging and not recommended for the faint hearted. At the same time I always found him readily approachable and a patient teacher. Even though I was not his student, many times he would stop what he was doing to help me work through a difficult calculus problem--often with an added touch of his quick wit. Later, I would eventually go on to earn my bachelor's and Ph.D degrees. Very fond memories of our brief interactions were rekindled in reading his obituaray and viewing his burial service on YouTube. Thank you for sharing. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in your loss of this remarkable man.
