Sarah Burke Obituary

Burke, Sarah "Sally" BALLSTON LAKE Sarah "Sally" Burke, age 81, passed away with grace on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Sally was born on April 23, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pa. to the late William and Pauline (Vilsack) Schofield. Sally attended Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. and following graduation she became a nun with Mother Seton Sisters of Charity and served with their community for eight years. Through and through, Sally was a people person, something that was very evident in the various jobs she held. She worked at Camp Chingachgook as an office manager, a public relations manager at the College of Saint Rose and the Cohoes Music Hall, and as a bus driver for Shenendehowa C.S.D. Sally was a long-time communicant of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Round Lake where she worked closely with the Bethany Group. Sally was a performer and loved musical theater. She was a founder and board member of Not So Common Players of Clifton Park, performing free musicals with the group for nearly 20 years. More than anything, Sally enjoyed her family. She spent years traveling the world with her husband and life partner, John Burke. Most of all, she took great pride in being Granny and spending time with her grandchildren. Sally's memory will be carried on by her beloved husband of over 52 years, John A. Burke; her wonderful children, John A. Burke Jr. (Erica Friday), Capt. David E. Burke (Sue Ehlers Burke) and Paul J. Burke (Meg Burke); and her adored grandchildren, Caitlyn M. Burke, John (Drew) Burke III, Abigail Burke and Maxwell Burke. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Elliot and Pauline Shilander; and her daughter-in-law Jennifer Burke. Along with her parents, Sally was predeceased by her brothers, William and Thomas Schofield; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Campbell (Newell) Burke; and her mother and father-in-law John H. and Edna Burke. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, May 28, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake. According to the family's wishes, masks will not be required for those who are fully vaccinated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2001 U.S. 9, Round Lake. Interment will follow in the Jonesville Cemetery, Jonesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Not So Common Players, P.O. Box 296, Clifton Park, NY, 12065 or at www.notsocommonplayers.org. The family encourages you to view and leave messages on Sally's Book of Memories at TownleyWheelerFH.com

There are no words for the loss of such an amazing lady... but I can think of about 5000 Broadway songs that would capture the love and spirit of the person we have been so blessed to know.
